I am putting together a list to add a rear remote to my Massey GC2310. I noticed that the current Quick Disconnects appear to be Safeway S40-2.

SafeWay Hydraulics - S40 Series

I have learned that my tractor has a total flow of 6.1 GPM of which 2 GPM apparently goes to steering so that seems to leave 4.1 for the loader and other implements.

The hosing is 1/4 inch.

According to the specs from Safeway, the S40-2 has a rated flow of 3 GPM.

I though I read somewhere here on TBN that that the connection should be one size larger than the hose to not create a restriction.

Is there any real performance drop by using the S40-2 versus the -3 which has a 6 GPM rated flow?

Thanks Dan

I would use the ones you have linked, Mainly just to keep consistency with what you have now.

Remember that you are operating the remote's intermittently, unless your are operating a motor...so the 3 GPM rating does not fully apply.

Now for the PB loop, you might want to step up to the next size since it's flowing 4.1 GPM constantly.

Hi Kennyd - Thanks.
My understanding of my current set up is as follows:

Pump - creates 6.1 GPM and sends a dedicted 2 GPM to steering (thats a whole nother question how this works, but my poor brain can only soak up so much ata time!)
pumps Sends the remaining 4.1 GPM into the Loader at 1920 PSI
Loader control - This seems like a standard 2 spool with float Correct? The work outputs (lift and curl) each go through 3 gpm rated S40-2 QDs
There is an existing PB loop from the loader valves through 1/4 inch piping and tubing which discharge again through a S40-2 QD currently for my hoe attach. Or when not attached as a loop. In other words it already goes through the smaller connects in the circuit.

The way I read the chart on the safeway site it appears that the s40-2 has a pressure loss of over 15 PSID at 4 GPM while the s40-3 has a loss of around 7 PSI.

One question I have is would this have any appreciable effect on my lift capability? If I was so inclined to change the QD on my loader, would I be able to lift any greater load? My gut tells me that 7 PSI is not going to make much, if any, difference but I am pretty low on the learning curve.

Regarding changing to the next level, it seems that if a goal is to use the PB loop for my hoe, I would need to change those out as well, or are they interchangeable?

Thanks again for your insights

Dan

Dan,
Your thinking to hard about this:D!
If the manufacturer used those S40-2 couplers for the FEL and PB loop, then just use them on anything else you add.

Follow your gut here, you will see no difference. Save your money:D

As I said, if they used the S40-2 couplers then that's what you should use. Disregard my earlier comment about up sizing the PB loop.

Just tryin to learn!
and If I can get some more lifting capacity that would be great, but 7 pounds for the price of 4 QDs isn't worth it. 70 pounds I might consider it.
