Quarter Inching Valve on FEL?

Yeah, I think it has a huge impact.

In regards to my old Ford 555A, it's a 1984 model. None of the valves have been replaced. They are very, very smooth. The FEL valves don't leak enough to notice. Lift the front of the tractor off the ground and dig with the hoe. Never have to readjust the FEL.

This is what I did.



It is a flow control valve installed on the return line when lowering. It only meters in one direction of flow so raising is still at normal speeds. With this, I can adjust up or down to match the task at hand and it is easy to reach. Works very well.

In a panic or haste I might occasionally start descent a bit to fast. But otherwise I see no need. I can control my ascent or descent on my M9540 easily with the joystick. I never need to rest my arm on anything to control that.

I wonder if it's affected by size of tractor and FEL? I don't recall having a problem with my previous L4400 either so that might not have anything to do with it. I've not ran any other small FEL setups. My old Ford TLB is also very easy to control.

Nor have I had any problem feathering the decent of my FEL with a load. While using it to build a block wall a couple of years ago, I placed each 500# +/- concrete block into place with precision while hung by chains from the FEL of my L4200. Lowered gently without any abrupt movements while landing each block. And my Kubota was 17 years old at that time.
