Had to share. Went over 250,000 miles on my 96 Powerstroke. Except for the darn CPS and one injector it was pretty smooth. Heres how it's set up:

June 1996 F250HD XLT/SC, LWB, 4x4, 4:10LS, E4OD, White outside, Gray inside, Camper/Tow pack, Factory Aluminum wheels, Factory rear slider, decal free.
Factory AIC, Aux dash switches, Full add-a-leaf, Mile Marker SS Hubs, Upgraded E4OD Tranny, Tymar intake, BD downpipe, Exhaust brake, 203* stat, BriteBox, California Regulator mod, Truck Interiors Winterfront, Ported bug guard, Energy Suspension bushings rolling on 265x75 Bridgestone Revo's.

and pics...96 mods

Nice truck! Here's to another quarter mil. I recently sold a 1997 identical to yours - except for the engine (gas 7.5L w/108k original). I'll replace it with a reg. cab F250/350 w/ diesel, if I ever find an nice, unmolested one.

Nice old truck. That 7.3L is just getting broken in.

Thanks, when my daughter was in 4H (10 years and a couple of years barrel racing) it had a stock trailer on the back more than it was off. It's been a good vehicle. Although when I got in to it this afternoon, I couldn't get the seatbelt to latch. The button broke.Talk about timing...According to Ford the seatbelts are obsolete and I can't find any in the local wrecking yards.

Check the internet and EBAY for the seat belts.

My B.I.L. truck is sitting on just about 360K right now. Ive put several sets of glowplugs in it, along with GP relays, IDM, rebuilt the fuel filter base and pressure regulator..
Jsut had to put ball joints in the front end, along with another set of brakes.
All in all, for what the truck has been put thru, it still runs good and pulls his TT on the weekends..
It could stand a set of injectors and an HPOP now, but we just dump 2 stroke oil in the fuel it keep the injectors from hanging up..

wow, 360k. These engines do seem to run for ever. I put a can of Sea Foam in the tanks every 6k. The injector I replaced was due to water. All in all I've done both ball joints, a steering box, steering pump and water pump and a couple three CPS's. I'm on my third set of front pads and the original rear shoes but they're just about ready to be replaced. The body is holding up really well. I can't find any rust on it and except for a little spot under the right headlight, the paint is great.
I've been really happy with it.

If his gives up the ghost, we will probably put a 12v in it.. We ahve two of them with just under 100k with the rotary pumps (165 hp.)... so the trans should hold the little Cummins..

I thought about the same. There's a place in Montana that does it

yes, there is a company called Destroked that sells and does some installing as well... Its really not that big of a job to install an old 12V mechanical non-intercooled engine into a 2wd Ford...
The engines we have came out of Komatzu loaders..

Just a question, not trying to be nasty in any way, and obviously not the OP, so don't take it the wrong way. I get 300,000 miles minimum before I even consiter getting rid of a vehicle, I am curious as to why everyone seems to think that their vehicle is almost done when it hits 200,000. Would really like to know as this has puzzled me for a long time.

current fleet:
84 Dodge 350 dump- 327,000
99 chevy 3500 express cutaway-391,000- possibly it's last year
84 gmc c60 alot- at least 200,000
05 ram 171,000
03 Dodge neon 251,000
06 caravan 197,000
00 Grand caravan 161,000
94 cummins 259,000
94 cummins 401,000
31 ford AA 58,000

Obviously it depends on how the whole truck is holding up and what kind of use it sees. If it is someone's only vehicle and they use it for towing, hauling groceries, family trips, etc. then I guess it is more likely to be decked out with electronic gadgets, and the more gadgets a vehicle has the more of them will break over time and make you wish for a new truck.

A work truck that doesn't have heated chairs, power windows, blablah has fewer things to go wrong so less potential money-eating repairs. Besides that, if it is not the vehicle you drive when you aren't working, it matters less if it has gadgets or not, at least to me.

I think it's all about gadgets (that break) and warranty (if you don't have an extra truck.) I want a bigger tow vehicle and I don't know if I will save up for a 0 mile $45k one with no gadgets, get a 100k $15k one with a few gadgets and spend more on maintenance, or what; but once I get a second one I will feel a lot more comfortable knowing that if one needs to be in the shop I won't miss jobs, thus I will feel safe keeping both trucks until they have a zillion miles on them.

When I purchased my truck I didn't want all the "extras" that came with just about every truck we looked at. I wanted a farm truck I wouldn't be worried about breaking but to get one I had to order it and wait months to get. Like was said earlier, I just about figure this one is broke in and I'm hoping to hit 500k with it. This maybe the last truck I own.

Where do you live? That has a lot to do with it. Also what type of money are you willing to put into them to keep them going. For the right price you can keep anything going. Plus having plenty of extra vehicles around makes it easy to do but for someone with only 1 or 2 vehicles they can not afford break downs.

I dont have a powerstroke but my 1990 ranger has 288K miles on it. I do like ford i think they make a strong truck. That said i also own a 1980 chevy, so im not really brand biased.

I live in Wisconsin, where rust runs rampant. Most of my fleet does not get washed, and the only truck that has any major cancer/problems is the 84 dodge. Clutch linkage is helt to the frame with a vise grip, and the frame broke this spring. will fix the linkage this winter when I have some down time, and I plated the frame the following weekend after it broke. It is also on it's second engine. 318/2bbl dog that was in the back of the shed. And, as far as no options go, This one doesn't even have a heater. Have found it is much cheaper to keep putting repairs into what I already have, than it is to spend 25-50,000 on a new used truck/car.
