4720 (2013) / 4310 (2002)
Hello All-

This past week, I traded in my 4310 for a new cabbed 4720. So far, this tractor has been just awesome, however I noticed that both the loader joystick control and the 3 point lever are a lot stiffer than they were on my 4310. The loader lever is tolerable, however the 3 point lever is stiff enough that it makes using a rear blade with some precision a very difficult task. On my 4310, I could easily adjust the 3 point handle which allowed me to use rear implements with much more precision, but on the 4720 it is somewhat choppy.

That said, will these levers ease up over time, or would be possible to adjust the tension on both of these controls so that they operated smoother?

Hello Dano

I also have a new cabbed 4720 and a 4300. My three point lever is very stiff as well. Moves very smoothly on the 4300. Ive been meaning to call the dealer to have them look at it.

I will report back on what they say or do to remedy this.

I will agree with you that the tractor is awesome.

My 4520 cab rockshaft is very smooth but as with the other cab tractors it does use a cable to operate it. Might have the dealer check it out as you should not be having these issues.

My low hour 3720's rockshaft lever does't move at all, 5 weeks left on the warrentee, dealer is picking it up to fix the issue

Had the same problem with mine, just follow the rock shaft linkage down to the case and loosen the tension bolts, takes all of 5 minutes top, will be the same as the 4310

Hey 480-

Is your tractor an open station or does it have a cab? If so, is the linkage you are adjusting inside or outside of the cab?

Cab and its a couple of nuts on the transmission case, just loosen them up until it feel loose enough, mine was a turn and a half. Cable when disconnected from rockshaft control lever at transmission case was smooth in operation, just a cotter pin thingy on the lever that connected to the cable (for a test of the cable operation). Just follow the cable to where the control lever is, that where the nuts are.

the answer to this question is because the cab tractor you have has cables from the joystick to the control valve and is not direct linkage to the control valve like the open station. No they wont loosen up through time and in fact, may get stiffer through time. Only way to remedy the issue if it gets stiffer is to replace the cables or drill a hole in the cables and use a syringe to inject oil into them. Only downfall of the cab tractors

The loader joystick I can live with for now, however I did get a chance to check out 480 Volts suggestion and it worked perfectly. Thanks to him, the rockshaft control is much smoother and I can not feather it without issue. Kind of make me wonder why my dealer did not set it up like this before delivering the tractor.

setup does not include going around the machine and loosening bolts that were torqued to spec from factory
