Question about a part on the fuel pump

This is on a DK35

There is a valve (bleed valve?) that has a line that runs to the first injector and I believe from the filter.

What is this for? Should it be open (counter clockwise) or closed?

I'm trying to bleed the air from my lines and was not sure if this was used for that or not. I have already bled the filter by switching it to air, and was about to start cracking the injector lines, but saw this and wasn't sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

open to bleed and closed to run. it bleed the air between the filter and the injection pump. Also the injectors have excess fuel that is returned to the tank though that line. My DK45 has a line off the last injector that returns to the tank.

Lots of time the Air setting does not work to get all the air out of the filter if the "air" line (where the air is suppose to go back to the tank) has a dip in it with fuel it vapor locks and wont let the air out. I pull off the "air" hose and let the air bled out until I see fuel. Then never have problem with air getting to the injection pump. I tried to shorten up my air line so there is no dip and it seemed to help. Also do it with a completely full tank of fuel so more head pressure to push air out.
