Question about a Western Movie

 / Question about a Western Movie #11
I don't think there were any dukes at the Alamo. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We're all waiting to see the new Alamo movie coming this fall, and see if it's closer to reality. We Texans don't cotton to people messin' with the story of the Alamo. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Well, at least with OUR version of the story. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

 / Question about a Western Movie #13
I'm with Bill, Loneseome Dove. When Robert Duvall says..."Lori darlin'" it just kills me. A close second would be, Dances with Wolves, and then Silverado. I even liked the one with Sharon Stone, what was it....some gunslinger movie...Quick and the Dead?

I had an Amish Brick Mason tell me the same joke

You know, if you think about it, the butt of that joke is probably more you and I with our lifestyles that include cars and drive by shootings than anyone else. I'm just happy no one was offended. I thought it was cute, but you can never know how someone else will take something. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

 / Question about a Western Movie #15
Not too long.

On March 5, 1836, 189 Texians and volunteers died defending the Alamo. After a siege that lasted 13 days, a Mexican army led by Gen. Santa Anna finally overran the mission and killed the remaining defenders. Their bodies were burned and buried in a common pit. Mexican casualties were estimated at approximately 1600 killed or wounded.

At least that's what I remember from my 7th grade Texas History course. And yes, Llano has some great barbeque. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

 / Question about a Western Movie #16
Did you know that all of the Alamo defenders were Republicans? The Democrats saw Santa Ana coming and hightailed it to New Mexico. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

 / Question about a Western Movie #17
My favorite western is probably The Searchers. Others that are way up there are, anything THE DUKE was in, and then Unforgiven, Tombstone, Lonesome Dove, and The Quick and the Dead are good ones. Plus, the Good the Bad and the Ugly, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Pale Rider.

Among the old western series, my favorite is The Rifleman. I have about 10 of those on my Tivo machine to watch, at any given time.

 / Question about a Western Movie #18
Tombstone was really good too but I thought Unforgiven was really coarse and graphic, which is neither here nor there, just no softness in it at all. Those poor kids left to fend for themselves, etc. It was probably about as historically accurate as it could be, but just really rough.

 / Question about a Western Movie #19
Anyone remember Paint Your Wagon? Really a musical but one of Clint's first appearances. He did have singing ability.

Then there's the one with Lee Marvin on the horse leaning against the wall. Can't remember the name but he did get an Oscar for it.

( anything THE DUKE was in )

I think I've only got 21 John Wayne movies on tape. McClintock is probably my favorite. But also nearly any western with Clint Eastwood, Glen Ford, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin . . . . well, maybe nearly any western. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
