All right Bird! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif McClintock is absolutely one of my favorites. Also North To Alaska.

But I'm REALLY surprised no one mentioned High Noon. Absolutely a classic! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ah, yes. And even before I saw that movie the first time, I had Johnny Horton's album with that song on it, along with a lot of other good songs.

I'm going to assume that one of the things you miss about Texas is the food ... and I'm going to fix you up. Years ago I found a BBQ marinade that I had to send to El Paso for cause they didn't sell it anywhere except the fairly local area. I originally called them and told them what I wanted and she said "OK I'll send it out today" - I asked "Don't you want my money first?" and she said "just send me a check - I'm sure it'll be OK" You can now find it everywhere and I'll bet they aren't as down home as they used to be either - but the sauce is still the same! I highly recommend the brisket sauce - for any meat you want - just follow the directions on the back. Claudes BBQ marinade I do not have any interest in this (OTHER THAN TO EAT IT) it's just the best stuff I've ever found .... next to Shiner bock ... now my mouth's watering... claudes brisket, a cold Shiner, a shady tree, and a nice breeze in central Texas = HEAVEN /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bill, hey I have chewed on more than My share of that. all I can say is when I pass through from Deer camp Its a darn good thing those folks use BIG trays. I'll take 1 of everything please. no not 1 piece 1 # ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Now I am sure gonna give that sauce a try. Texas is the best place in the world for brisket, Although Montreal smoked meat comes pretty darn close. There is another Marinade and BBQ available here in most stores. Stubbs. I think theyre in Austin. I can never remember the name of that place that wraps the BBQ in paper, by Houston ??? oh well, now I'm starvin and my mouth is watering to beat the band. Speaking of that Bird I'm getting flashbacks of " we gotta sink the Bismark We gotta bring Her down" non no wait....So Weee Grabed an alligator and powdered his behind but when we took the pwder off the gator lost his Mind ! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif LOl I 'll tell ya I listened to that stuff as a young lad bailing hay, of course there was none of this high tech stereo stuff so we just sang to the cows. I need to try that Shiner Bock. I have heard several folks now say its pretty datrn good. But in Texas I always feel compelled to lean towards a cracklin crisp ice cold Lone Star. YEEE HAW ! I remember a fellow once in Fla when I started my first buisiness in a flea market. That old boy was from La and he sold Craw fish. All day long he' shout out " Just Pinch the Head and Suck on the Tail !" lol, I guess you had to be there. Me well, I had Topless oysters On Display /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dave,

Could this be the place you're trying to recall. From the Texas Monthly review of the best BBQ in Texas, Kreuz (rhymes with "brights") is in the top three, along with Cooper's:

( It's been the same for years. At Kreuz Market in Lockhart, you enter from the dirt parking lot through the hellishly hot pit area in the rear. If the line is long enough--and the line at Kreuz is seldom short--the exposed post-oak-wood fire at the end of the pit may lick at your feet for a few minutes before you move up. You order from a wall menu that lists beef shoulder (95 percent lean), brisket (a little fattier), prime ribs, pork loin, and sausage (85 percent beef and 15 percent pork). The meat is served on butcher paper, with white bread and/or saltines and a plastic knife. No fork. You enter the tall, spartan, smoke-varnished main dining area and get your drink and maybe a condiment or two, such as tomatoes, avocado, jalapenos, pickles, or onions. No sides. No sauce. Then you sit at a long table with everybody else and eat with your fingers.)

When Hackman said " You just shot an unarmed man". Eastwood says: "Well, he should'a armed himself".

I Liked James Garner in the goofy "Support your local Sheriff".

Tom Selleck in Quigly and others. Ben Johnson, Sam Elliot, Walter Brennen. Jimmie Stewart always played a good laid back character.

I didn't really care for the new OK Corral. Just wasn't the same without the old actors.

Ever see "The Villan" a comedy with kirk Douglas and Arnold Swartzen (SP)????..........

Come to think of it there were a lot of good westerns and a lot of good characters.

Now I will have to watch a Western.
