With the internet and print media its hard not to look or overstep your area. I think cut throat dealers and just that. Think about this, as we just did in our purchase:
Cost and time to travel and haul back
Who will service it? Sure you take it to a brand X dealer, but if they did not sell it, 90% of the time you will not get the same perks as someone who bought from them
How far do you want to travel for parts.
who can you build a relationship with.

There are some "power" deals with everything from the trailer to the kitchen sink out there, BUT are they using factory attachments, warranty? who will support you when and if you need it

I disagree. Every day is a fresh new profit-seeking day for dealers. I bought my Massey GC1715 from the very best dealer I could find . . They are 124 miles away. Meanwhile I have a massey dealer 5 miles away and they send me flyers for every parts sale they have and actively pursue the service side of my unit. A 2nd dealer is 22 miles away and they've expressed a desire to do service work on my unit as well.

Meanwhile my dealer has 24 service techs on staff plus managers etc.. I had a tour of their service area . . Its the size of a big warehouse. They also send me mailers and flyers and their inventory of parts for Massey and Kubota is understandably large to support their large service department.

True... but buying local is not a guarantee of future service.

For a time there was not a Kubota Dealer in the my county or the three nearest ones... they had folded or dropped Kubota... something to think about.

And that is another great point that I didn't remember to make also. In my case I was intetested in product 1st and then how many dealers in a 150 mile radius (for service and parts access later on).

My particular dealer has been in operation since 1919.

The SF Bay Area is purported to be a Hub of commerce... but, just try and find a local Kubota Dealer! Back when I was shopping there weren't any in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties... the Kubota Dealer in Santa Clara was trying to sell me a Ford and had a lot full of them... all the Kubota Tractors were priced very high... I did go to him to buy some implements and was told to go to my selling Dealer and never have been back to Santa Clara since.... now Deal exclusively with Green Valley Kubota halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento.

Totally different where I am in Washington State... several to choose from and not far from the Capital city of Olympia.
