Vic;

Loctite makes a thread sealant specifically for NPT threads. #565. I don't know if it really matters that much but they went through the trouble to manufacture it. Also I would recommend the primer. It made a difference for the times that I used it. It has some chemical reaction that facilitates the success of the anaerobic activity of the sealant. The 545 may work just fine. I would use a "dry" solvent like acetone or Wally World brake cleaner to clean the fittings first. Good Luck.

I picked up the 545 at Grainger; it was the only place I could find it. I didn't see any 565. I think the 545 should do the job. If I can find the primer today, I'll get some. The brake cleaner also sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

Honestly I pretty much just use "blue" medium strength on more or less everything I work on including hydraulic fittings that are pipe thread

I'm on the 545 road now, but thanks for your suggestion.

You would be doing the dealer a favor by mentioning that the assembly person is missing this step.
Shouldn't be construed as a complaint that compromises your possible "Big Stuff", IMO.

Yes, you are correct and I'll let them know. I'm sure they sell a lot of these snowblowers so they're likely sending a lot of leaks out the door.

This is what I use on my hydraulic couplers. Works like a charm, readily available at the local auto parts store and is very inexpensive. For degreasing the threads I simply use brake cleaner spray. Spray on and it dries quickly without any residue.

Permatex 80632 Thread Sealant with PTFE, 4 oz.

I'm on my way to pick up some brake cleaner spray. This sounds like a great idea to me. Thanks.

I've used that combination many times myself before I switched to the 3M brand sealant I current use.

Thank you for your feedback!
