Just got my 5105 delivered yesterday, with some goodies including an LX6. When we were lowering the LX6 off the tractor, I noticed that the blade pan (stumpjumper) on it had one side distinctly lower than the other, almost like it had been bent. I asked the salesman, who looked at it and told me he didn't know if that was normal or not. Can anyone else with an LX6 tell me if the blade pan is symmetrical when viewed from the side or has one side noticeably lower than the other? If this isn't normal I'll be asking for a new blade pan or a replacement LX6.

it should be level. put it on your tractor, make sure the slip clutch is VERY loose, clear all children, pets vehicles out of the way, set your rpms at alittle above idle and fire it up. trust me when i say you will know RIGHT AWAY if it is bent! if you do this little test, make sure cutter is lowered down to the ground.

Well we did test-run the cutter briefly as the salesman was showing me how to properly use the PTO clutch lever. There was not much vibration when running - a bit, but nothing to make me think something was wrong. Less than some lawn mowers I've used. We both noticed the funny shape of the blade pan after doing this (pto disengaged, cutter fully stopped), when we were finding a place to park the LX6 so we could put on the rear blade I had also purchased. If there's no funny vibration - does that mean no problem? I just don't want to keep a damaged cutter when I paid for a good new one!

the lx6 is very heavy so you'll need to safely block it up and take a gander under it. make sure everything is tight. look for signs of abuse, rock dents, extreme wear. rotary cutters are very simple machines, very few moving parts, and a snap to figure out if something is wrong. GOOD LUCK!

"Z",

Is your LX6 branded "John Deere" or "Frontier"? It should not make a difference, but Deere turned over the manufacturing of their light-duty LX series cutters to the Frontier division last year - I don't think that they changed anything besides the decals - but you never know... When I check for you tomorrow, I just want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples.

I have an LX6 branded John Deere... I think the Frontier cutter is an RC1072 or something like that. Judging from the brochure the Frontier cutter is a different cutter design, not simply the LX6 with another maker and label. In particular, the LX6 has a rear bumper and it appears that the Frontier version does not.

Hello

They bent it moving it with the fork truck. There shouldn't be any diff. from one side to the other. That way the blade can spin around if you hit something. Have them order you a new pan and come replace it.

Kind of sounds like it's bent to me or something's out of wack. Can you post a picture of it that shows height difference?

My bad... I knew they had discontinued the LX series last year. I also knew that the replacement light-duty cutters would be Frontier branded. Unfortunately, I assumed that they were the same, which in fact, as you already know, they are not... As I no longer have any Deere LX cutters on my lot, I have uploaded the line drawing from the Parts Catalog - hopefully it helps... Let me know if there is anything else I can do - and I will try not to assume anything this time...

I appreciate the post but the drawing is too basic to really tell if mine is normal or not. I'm trying to attach some photos I took today - everyone, please look at your LX cutters and let me know if this looks normal or not! I don't see any damage on the pan indicating that it was bent in handling, but it is definitely asymmetrical.
