I have a Bostich round head nailer and it is good. One thing to consider is if you will be using any metal straps, hangers, or braces. They now have nailers that have the tip of the nail exposed so you can line it up with the nail hole.

There has been a lot innovation in the nailer industry in the last year. One other thing to consider is what type of fasteners you will be using. If you want to nail down a deck made with ACQ then you will nead Stainless Steel or Hot Dip Galvanized nails.

One brand not mentioned is DuoFast. I have one I bought back in 92' that has served me well except for some O-rings needing changing. I don't know if they have kept up with the others brands with technological improvements.

I have four Porter Cable guns that I am satisfied with too. Two are brad nailers, the others are the roofing gun and a 1/4" round head staple gun.

I'm planning to get a pneumatic framing nailer. I will be using mainly 8d & 16d nails for framing and sheeting. What brand/type is the most commonly used by pros? I got an bostich from 20 years ago and found that I couldn't find nail for it. What's the difference between full-round head, clip head and various degrees of nail types? I want to be able to use the most commonly used cheap nails sold at home depot or lowes. I don't want to stuck with a specific brand/type of nail only available by the nailer manufacturer. Is there such thing? Thanks for you help.
If you aren't doing the framing for a living, a palm nailer from Harbor Freight will drive any kind of nail there is. Slower and cheaper.

I don't know about slower. :) I got a palm pounder made by Bostich 2 years ago and I am amazed how fast it can sink a nail. Great little gizmo for driving nails in hard to reach places. Wish I had gotten one sooner.

Those palm nailers are great for joist hangers. They do tend to use a lot of air. My older Senco SN65 was recycled from being on loan to This Old House. I couldn't beat the price ($0.00 :) ) and it works just fine for a weekend hack.

I liked them for diaphragm walls, a California invention, A guy with a hammer could get tennis elbow in a couple of hours.

What type/brand of nails work with the Hitichi? or only with Hitichi nails? Will it work with generic 21 degree and 28 degree full head nails sold at home depot?

I remember this thread and had never heard of a palm nailer. Back when I did carpentry, around 1980, pnuematic nailers were not that common although we did have on for our building trades class in high school.

I bought a Bostitch palm nailer a few weeks ago and was sinking rubber washer metal siding nails on my shed with ease. The former owner never bother to finish nailing the siding on and I found it difficult to start these nails through the ribs of the wavy metal. I had resorted to drilling pilot holes in the tin. The palm nailer had a two hour job done in about 10 minutes and even ran on my rinky dink 90$ compressor. :D
