Question about the Grand L\'s

Actually two questions: Which of the Grand L's can comfortably pull a 6' rotary mower for pasture grass and weeds mown every 3-4 weeks? I won't be cutting saplings or brush, just grass and weeds. Can the HST model of this tractor with loader be had for under 20,000?
On Steve Carver's site he has a weight for the L3010HST as 3740# one place and 4170# elsewhere. Do you think the difference could be because of different bucket sizes? Okay, that was 3 questions. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Question about the Grand L\'s

The best way to know if a tractor can handle a specific width mower is to actually look at the mower you might want. They almost always list a HP max/min HP requirement. A 72" mower with free swing blades may requir more HP then some fixed blades found on a finish mower. As far as weight, the figure go all over the place because they rarely include the weight of the loader, tires may be with R1's unfilled, no fuel, lubricants etc. A typical Kubota "Grand L series loader will be over 1000#'s additional weight. R4's will outweigh R1's typically because they are usually wider and sometimes thicker. As far as price , contact Steve Carver and send in the questionaire. Don't get carried away with extras. Get what you will plan on purchasing for sure like attachments. Rarely will you get a breakdown on each componets cost from Steve but rather a overall amount delivered to your door. I would think the tractor your thinking about is right around that price. Rat...

Have you tried your local area dealers? You can get actual seat time in addition to asking questions and remember who might be close by when you need service or warranty work. The Grand L's are a great tractor.

Re: Question about the Grand L\'s

HR,

As I recall, the local dealer thought that it would take an L3710 or maybe L3410 to do what I need. I wondered if the owners of those models pull the 6' mower or stick with 5'. You're right, they are very nice. I tested an L3010HST in the past and thought it was a great tractor.

Re: Question about the Grand L\'s

Grant,
I have a 3410 HST and a Woods Brush Bull 600. It's a 5' "medium duty" rotary cutter, but it is more tank than any other cutter I have seen (in it's price range anyway...). I don't have a lot of seat time with it yet, but so far i have been able to cut everything with no problem up to 2" trees (softwood). I would think that a grass cutting deck would be OK to 6'. In fact, Kubota list 72" as the maximum width for a rotary cutter, so they think it will be OK, too!

Go for it!

Specs. for PTO hp on HST equipped (a real sweetheart to operate) are 24.0.for L3010, 27.0 on the HST L3410, and 30.0 on the L3710.Each cutter mfg. will list pto hp requirements for their equipment. One thought, the Grand L's are so nice, maybe equip it with a finish mower as I can't imagine only operating her every 3-4 weeks/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Re: Question about the Grand L\'s

I think it's much more about tractor size and stability than PTO HP. My experience mowing fields is that it's not a strain on the engine at all, even in the tallest grass. Hacking brush and saplings is different, but you said you didn't need to do that.

John Bud says the specs for the tractor call for up to a 6' mower, so I'd do it without heasitation on any of the 3x10 models.

Re: Question about the Grand L\'s

Grant, I have the L3410HST and a 6' LandPride cutter and it handles it with no problem even in weeds above waist high. On the price, I got mine last Nov. for 20,000 with LA481 loader, HD bucket, folding ROPs, Ballast in rear tires, 6' LandPride rear blade, 6' cutter, Ag tires. Kubota shows the weight at 2800lbs without the loader. When I bought mine the dealer said that the 3010 or the 3410 would handle a 6' with no problem. By the way I love the HST and the overall performance of mine.
