The Home Despot sells 36ct of AA's for 12 bucks and change. I gave up on rechargeable batts a long time ago. Junk, don't hold a charge, don't have the capacity of an alkaline, and have a very short life cycle compared to alkalines.
When I need batteries, I need them now, not when they are recharged.

I did the same thing. Then I went to Eneloops. They stay charged about a year. They have a little less capacity than the AA alkalines, but 2000 mAh is close to 2500. I use then in most things that require battery replacement in less than six months. I keep alkalines around only for that long power outage.
