Tires Question about upgrading tires for 2500 series

   / Question about upgrading tires for 2500 series #11
Just for comparison, my dealer gave me a price of $60 per rear tire (23 x 8.5), and $10 per tire for mounting. He didn't do the work though, he had a tire shop that he does business with do it.

Her prices sound awfully high. I would expect the ags to be maybe $80 each from a dealer, the turfs $70, something in that range.

You need to make sure the 10.5's will mount OK on 9.5 rims, I'm still not sure on that one.

If you are sure you don't have a need for the turfs in the future, just tell the dealer you want the tractor, will buy it today, but you want it with the ag tires, what will they do for you? They might come up with a fair deal if they know they are about to make a sale. Just a thought, hope this works out for you.

1*That's because Parts Dept. prices are full prices but Sales Dept. prices are exchange prices on items like this.

2*Here is what tire dealers told me about this. You can go 1 size narrower or one size wider on a given rim width. In this case a 9.50 rim would accommodate 8.50, 9.50 and 10.50 tires.
~~~~~~ If I was in the original posters shoes I would switch from the turfs to 8.50 AGs. That's what I did when I got my GT2554. Wouldn't trade them for any other tire.
3*When I bought my CC I paid $100 more for it with AGs than the cost of one with turfs. When I got my BX23 it was $15500 with AGs. One with turfs was $15500. When I bought the used BX1500 back in Nov. it had turf tires on it but the dealer replaced them with AGs for no additional cost.
Okay since the judgement seems to be Ag's, then how about R-4s? There is a 23x8.50-12 R-4 tire that will fit on the rim. Or is it better to just go with the ag tires?
I called Goodyear today and this is what i fond out.1st they can't get a ag tire for 23x9.5.I called the cub dealer and they couldn't find one either.Back to Goodyear.He said yiu could put a 23x10.5 tire on a 23x9.5 rim(he said that would be a 7"rim) But didn't advise doing this because the tire would bow and i would lose alot of traction.Also was not to high on the 23x8.50 said i would lose 200lbs of weight load a tire.Not sure about that.He said i should try to find a set of 8 1/2" rims for the 23x10.50.Also the 23x10.50 would cost $74.73 a tire.
So after i talked with goodyear i called dealer got the same person i talked with on saturday,said they didn't look into it yet.I asked about getting 8 1/2" rims so i could get the wider ags but was not sure they would have to look into it.
Why does cub but this odd rim on the 2500 series.I can't believe it is this hard to get ags for a garden tractor.If i wanted ags for my GT 1554 it would be no problem.But its belt drive you would think it would be easier for the shaft drive.
As a last resort a asked if my GT 1554 rims would fit the 2544 so i could swap these to get the ags on the 2544 but she didn't know.But i really don't want to do this.So at this moment i'm a little discouraged.
The 8.50 Ags are just fine for this tractor.
Like I said I would not want any other tire on my GT2554.
Has anyone tried these off ebay?
23X8.50-12 Deestone 6P Super Lug Tires DS5241
You can get two shipped for around $105 and 6 Ply...
I'm trying to decide which to go with on my 2544 as well, local TSC has the Carlisle 23X10.50-12 tires for about 70-80 bux each. I really wish I could find a wider set of rims that fit this stupid 4-lug to mount the Ag tires on, seems all other GT's are 5.
I had my dealer swap my turf tires for Ags. Best thing I ever done!
Which ones did they put on it? Carlisle don't make the superlug in 8.5, only 10.5, but they have one or two others in 8.5. How do they treat your yard?
