Tractor
(B2620, had BX22) Simplicity Legacy w/48" mmm
I've had my BX22 for about three years now, and it has been used exclusively for fel, and bh work since I had a riding mower prior to coming across a good deal on the BX22. Now, I'm at a crossroad, and I could use some imput from my friends here. I want to buy some attachments, and am undecided whether to buy them for the BX, or to upgrade to a larger tractor, and buy full size implements. I'll be smoothing some rough places in my yard, and reseeding, tilling gardens, and small food plots, chipping branches from the trees around my 3 1/2 acre yard, using a box blade / scraper some, etc. Old timers around here refer to my land as "bony". it is very rocky! I also have 10 acres of woods that is rocky, and somewhat wet in places. I've been careful to stay on the skidder roads there, and know that I need to smooth some of the rough places before I venture there with my low clearance. I'm thinking about a small ATV style winch to drag cut up trees from my brook, etc. I see a small chipper, landscape rake, bb, tiller, front blade, front snowblower, and perhaps mmm in my future. Too many projects, and not enough time... isn't it great!! My question is how happy have all of you been with those kind of attachments on your BX's?

The BX is a great little machine. I loved mine and hated to get rid of it, but, with what you have outlined, all the "off-lawn" work you are talking about, I'd say it's time to upgrade to a B series machine.

Just my opinion.

Yep, it sounds like an upgrade to a taller machine w/mo power has just been justified /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My BX23 has worked out much better than I originally hoped it would. Especially since it's used primarily as a finish mower. With all the rain I've had this season anythng heavier would be tearing up the turf.
If I had to tame what you've described I would be going crazy trying to decide between a B7800, B2630 or a heated and air conditioned cab mounted on a B3030 /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the input! I guess my thoughts are headed that way too, but confirmation is good. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I walked my woods a bit tonight before dark, and thought a L2800 wouldn't be really out of place there either, but I think the tighter turning radius of the "B" series would outweigh the brute strength of the "L" series, and be nicer to my yard.

Gotta say if you already have a Bx most full size attachments will work. Some don't lift as high, some attachments come with 2 3pt pin locations use he lowest set for your BX.If you upgrade latter you already have the attachments.I have 6 acres of woods and 6 acres of field and lawn that my BX handles fairly well, maybe someday I might go up in size but if one of the things your tractor does is mow that BX platform is hard to beat.I know a guy who made a rack for 3pt arms and mounted one of those 12volt winches on the back of his tractor.I think you should buy a couple of attachments and get busy with the BX if it doesn't work out go tractor shopping Good luck whatever you decide.

I have a BX1800 that I use on my 8 acres. I mow about 3 acres weekly, brush hog along a creek area that is pretty rocky, have a front mount snow blower, a DR chipper and a loader. I have to be careful in some areas due to the low ground clearance of the BX but it certainly isn't a major problem. My experience with the BX says that it will do about all you need to do without upgrading unless you WANT a larger tractor

I have a landscape rake and bb on my BX2200 that work just fine on my small 1 acre. I've also never read anything negative about the front snowblower for the BX, although I don't own one. I'm also pretty sure that the tiller for the BX would do what you want for small gardens. In fact, the BX should handle most of your needs for the "yard". But with the 10 acres of woods to maintain it becomes a strong argument for an upgrade. I think chipper performance on a larger tractor would be better as well. The trick is to get the right size that will handle what you need in the woods and not be too big and heavy to handle your light landscaping projects.

In either case it sounds to me like your up for some fun! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Keep us posted on what you decide.

Thanks everyone for all the imput! This is the kind of response I was hoping for. I guess we have to admit that "WANT" is a big part of this for most of us. Well, we have worked hard, and have earned it for sure! I have accomplished things with my BX22 I didn't think were possible for a tractor this size. Attached is a photo of some rocks I dug out, and had to push/roll to the wall. Time isn't really important since I will retire soon, and it is fun fixing up my skidder trails for the BX. I'm still on the fence though.....

Well, I've been playing in the dirt this afternoon with the BX22, and have to admit that I like the little beast. I wish that the four way valve stayed with the tractor when I took the loader off though. I have taken it apart, and remounted the control tower on the tractor, but that would be a pain in the winter going from snowblower to loader. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
