/ Question for Dodge Cummins truck owners #11
As usual, Bird's answers make the most sense!

I have idled my pickups/cars, gas or diesel, for both those reasons.

Hey, I'll bet that there is a higher percentage of Harley owners who throw away their mufflers (just to make them loud) than Cummins owners who leave them idling just to hear them rattle. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Just because I don't leave my Cummins idling, I do realize that it seems that a lot of people do. Maybe it's that Harley (gotta be really loud) complex for some people? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I've been asking this question for a while now, I think the "cool" factor is 99% of the reason, they have a diesel and by god they want everyone else to know it! However, I find it's not limited to Dodge owners...........

Simple answer...
Dodge owners leave em idling in hopes that someone will steal it so they can file a claim, then buy a Duramax.

The reason us Doge Diesel owners never shut it off is simple. It was running when we picked em up at the dealers and just can't figure out which way to turn the key to stop it!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/ Question for Dodge Cummins truck owners #18
I am a dodge owner and guilty of this practice.

As the others have said its the cool down,
One of the reasons for buying the diesel is the extended engine life.
Failing to let it cool down properly is foolish.

Also fueling with a diesel running is safe since diesel is not nearly as dangerous as gas.

Besides the new dodges are very quite. You can actually go through a drive in and place your order with one and leave the engine on.
Don't try this with a 7.3L Navistar!

I will let it idle on rare occations to keep the cab cool. I mostly kill it if I'm going to be away from it, I don't want some crackhead to steal it. Or some "immigrant" who needs a front clip or a set of hubcaps. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
