equipped with the FEL854 and third hydraulic function system as illustrated in the attached photo.

Just today I finally finished getting the proper QA connectors installed for bucket grapple, snow blade etc, and therefore made the first powered use of the FEL 3rd function system.

Upon releasing (not pushing them) the control buttons (shown in the circle), I hear a distinct "clunk" that sounds like it is coming from amidships below the cab. (I would need two people to actually discern the specific origin of the sound.)

This happens upon release in either direction, every time.

Are any of you who are similarly equipped experiencing this?

Thank you.

The 3rd function valve is run by solenoids which make a clicking/clunk sound when activated. It is located right side mid tractor.

Sounds like the solenoid to me also. I don't have a Kubota, but I do have the 3rd function for my front loader and there is always the solenoid clunk when activating that function. I doubt that you have anything to worry about. ;)

Have an L3130 with the WR Long 3rd function valve and at full throttle deactivating the solenoids can cause a slight "hammer" sound in the hydraulics for the rear three point on my tractor. You may be hearing something similar where you would not with the loader valve as it feathers.

The valve is located under an orange(cover) where the right side step was.
I have the same set-up on my L4240.I believe what you are hearing is the valve shifting.
On another note:unfortunately Kubota has a known problem with their third function kit.(search the forums here).Mine and others go into "relief",if it happens to yours you will hear a distinct "squeal".Mine has been to the dealers three times for this...not fixed. The "fix" ,leave the three point a little off all the way up.

Same sound on my M7040 with my 3 func.

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your expeditious replies. Your consensus was one of the thoughts that I surmised, but did not want to rest upon my own lack of experience with this model. My previous 3rd function was the WR Long on an L5030, and so this was different, and sometimes different can be normal, or trouble.

As an aside, the Kubota dealer's wrench was here today (left prior to my "clunk" experience) and I did get the opportunity to ask him regarding hydro oil changes and the 3rd function plumbing setup.

He said it is perfectly acceptable to loosen and remove the attached line at the swivel/elbow (photo with blue circle) to drain the hydro fluid instead of removing the guard and drain plug (photo with green circle).
