Question on casing

Sorry it took me so long to go look but the tractor on my lot has the same hole. I don't know the purpose of it but it is there.

Really?...the small hole above the threaded hole?
If that is the case, could this be like a breather hole?

From looking at these photos and the one you sent before, my best guess is a tooling hole. It would be only used in making the parts and would be blocked off by a gasket or some other means now. Looks like a rusty color around the hole. That reminds me of a weep hole found on water pumps. I would not worry about it. That is, as long as you don't find something leaking from it.

It is the small hole on top.

In this photo it looks like it could be a pilot (tooling) hole for the bolt behind it, before the hole was enlarged to depth and tapped. It is just too hard to tell from the photo.

Yes SF I know which hole you mean and mine is a little rusty just like that one. I don't think it is anything to worry about. Relax and enjoy your tractor, it has a reputation for many many hours of trouble free operation.(I mean fun)

Not true....on my 6500 anyway. The power steering fluid is red, (ATF). I know, because I have a leak that has been there since shortly after purchasing. I did not worry about it, as it was very minor. I am now sorry that I let it go, because it has gotten worst and the fittings now have to be replaced.

There is also red dyed hyd/trans fluid. but it is not recommended to use in Mahindras per the MUSA techs.

Funny you should mention the Power Steering. The ONLY warranty item I had in the first 3 years on my 6000 was the power steering resevoir had a leak. I believe it was the O-ring at the top of the unit, but they replaced the whole resevoir. No leak since. Check on top of your resevoir, you will find an Oring about 1" to 1 1/2" in dia. this may be your culprit....good luck!. BobG in VA
