The old high sulfur diesels had no problem with bacteria growth but perhaps some of the ULSD fuel would have growth if water contamination occurs. I keep my storage tanks inside a totally enclosed structure and my tractors under a shed. I don't use any additives and never had any problem. I haven't changed the fuel filter on my Kubota RTV in almost 3 years and it is still clear with not signs of residue. My LS is 2 1/2 years old with original fuel filter. I don't plan to change any of the filters till they at least show some signs of residue. I keep fuel clean and stored indoors and filter it when putting it into the tractors with a 10 micron filter so there is nothing to get into the tanks therefore no need to add additives or change the filter as long as it works. I did change the fuel tank filter last year after 2 years of running because the pump was running slow. Found out later, it wasn't needed as the slow pumping was the battery was weak and not charging causing the pump to run slow.
