Question on FEL longevity

Those loaders sit outside in a big lot from the time the paint dries until they are sold to a customer. So this loader has probably been sitting outside for many months all ready its nothing to worry about.

I think if you grease the pivots every 25 hours or less (or anytime you get the bucket into or below water) the pivot points will last a very, very long time. A new loader will have very tight pivots and loosen up some as it gets "broken in." I probably should have been more clear in my response to Tharn. If there is excess grease around the pivots and they are not tight, it would indicate a used loader, but the chance of his dealer giving him a used loader is pretty slim. Tharn, u know the saying 'u get what u paid for'.
Well some of the off (cheap) brand stuff has cheap (many different alloys in the chrome make up) or NO chrome on the rod so the better quality stuff will last longer and stay new looking.
Look at some stainless steel, it will rust, just depends on the alloy mix.
As for the pitting I'd guess it was setting around somewhere or if import could have gotten salt air or water on it.

Does NH still chrome the Compacts rams? The TN's they went to a different steel that is black and is suppose to be stronger and less likely to rust. My TN has sat outside for 3 years and the rams are still in great shape as the very ends never get pulled in all the way so they are always exposed some. The loader will be fine if it sat for a few months and the only time I would be upset is if the loader looks like mine does now (3 years of heavy use in concrete, dirt and brush does a number on the apperance).
