I have to replace the power steering suction hose. The suction and the pressure are both 1/2" hoses. I would like to use a 3/8" for a flexibility issue and leave the existing 1/2" pressure hose in place. I realize that normally the suction should be larger or at least the same size.
My question is, since the steering is a low volume system, can I get by with a 3/8" for suction?
I would prefer to use the 3/8", but it is not absolutely imperative.

it is not something i would recommend the mfg. already took into account the low flow and used the same size hoses. if it is flexibility try gates or flexdraulic hoses

Well I didn't really think that I was going to get away with this idea. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into these flex hoses.

A 1/2" suction hose is already smaller than normal. I would not mess with it. If your pump can't get enough fluid because the input hose is too small, you could be looking at some very expensive pump repairs.

Look into some manufacturers 1/2" hose that has thinner wall and more flexible. I think the spec is 100a7
