You can use PTFE (teflon tape) sealant or a high pressure, oil certified "pipe dope" to assist in tightening threaded connections.... Most sealant are miss labeled as a sealer when the are really a thread lubricate which allows more torque to be applied, there for meshing threads tighter preventing leaks.... The only place you don't use PTFE tape or pipe dope is on connections with straight threads, the general have internal sealing surfaces, which NPT (tapered) do not...

Since I have very poor success with PTFE tape and its not really recommended because it can separate and clog filters and strainers, I use a pipe dope....

This stuff and anti-seize compounds have made my life so much easier around the property....
Can't find it in Canada :(

Go to hardware store or commercial plumbing supplier or even farm store and look for pipe dope that is similar and read label, if its oil resistant and for use for high pressure plumbing it should be good.... Buy by specification on label on back of can or tube not necessarily by brand name... Read label part of graphic and look for some product with similar specifications...

Maybe this product...

I always use liquid sealant on npt connections

cavitation will usually occur if you have a leak on the suction side of your hydraulic system letting in air constantly. introducing air like you are doing in the system will not damage anything. there may be bubbles in the hydraulic oil that will get dumped into the tank (transmission case) where they will separate.

Anyone in the bus. will tell you not to use Teflon tape in hydraulics, for reasons of where it "could" end up.

I STILL use it, just very carefully. Easier to use, isn't messy and redoing/cleaning the fitting isn't such a big issue either.

What do mean by 'carefully'?

Starting your tape 1-2 threads above end of fitting so tape can not protrude beyond end of fitting and not get sheared off when tightening fitting... Also wrapping it correct way....

But the consensus in the industry is not to use tape on hydraulics...
