OK, something I know a little about - -I would have replied sooner, but I lost my phone again till the middle of the day.
Lake Punchinthemouth is a brackish, shallow lake, with outlets to Breton Sound [& the Gulf] through the Chef Pass & Rigolets Pass. Also, there there is a cut into the industrial canal & the Intracoastal Canal at Seabrook Bridge. The lake is affected by the tides, but less so than the Gulf.
The actress that was killed in an automobile accident was Jane Mansfield, but it was not on the Causeway. It was on Hwy. 90, the old hwy to the Mississippi coast. She was killed somewhere close to the drawbridge over the Rigolets.
The Causeway ain't so tough. It's 24 miles long, & I drove it every day from August '93 till I retired Sept. 1 '04. Sure beats driving in town with traffic lights on every corner. I've attached a photo of the lake I took in July '04.
