Question regariding keeping the tractor tank full

I am not **** about it...but I expect it may bite me in the butt one day. I use an additive that is supposed to help. CRC Industries Car Wash Products | Autoplicity

Just ordered a three year supply for under $30 delivered....I use about 125 gal of diesel a year. I look at it as cheap insurance.

Anybody that stores their tractor outside should not be surprised when they find water in their tank.

Never ever had a water problem with diesel in 39 years driving diesel cars and now 16 years with diesel tractors and 8 years with a diesel generator.

Have taken to putting 2 gallons at a time back in the tractor because it's easier to handle 2 gallons than 5. Take from the generator's 60 gallon tank to keep it flowing.

What makes tractors different than diesel cars? Most sit outside and not in a garage.

Nothing and most if not all of them are metal tanks.

My tractor is outside, under a shed. My 5310 was for 20 years. I never got any water in it and I put fuel in it when it needed it. I also never greaser mine every time I use it. That's definitely over kill. I set aside a couple of maintenance days periodically to check, grease, oil and tighten.

Does it really require greasing when I used it today for half an hour to clean my road? Somehow, I doubt it.

Surely you don't go to the gas station to fill that tank every time you fill up the tractor!

Like others, I hate starting a project....and be out/low on fuel. So I tend to refill the tractor or backhoe every time I'm done with them so they're always ready for a full round of work the next time I use them.

Yes, I tend to go the weekend following to fill up my 5-gallon empties. I keep around 35 gallons in 5-gallon containers. If I get busy.....empty the backhoe for example, I'll fill up and keep working.

Now, I might end up with a near empty machine AND no reserves....so I drive to the CoOp to fill my containers....come home, fill machine and go BACK to Coop to refill them so that I can keep ahead of the fuel.

In the winter, I pour diesal into the tank through a Mr. Funnel, which filters out water and sediment. I know you could still get condensation inside the tank, but this at least decreases the amount of it. I also treat the fuel with power service and an algeacide.
