What size hose/tubing would be recommended? I only want to buy it once

Just use the same size hose that is on the loader cyl.

If it is to fast, purchase some washer type restrictors, or add a needle valve and adjust to suit your mode of operation.

I think 3/8 is good, you can add a flow resistor washer at the coupler if needed. Someday you may want to build a limb cutter. :D

Ok good. .. And that looks like something I might want to build for sure! How thick of limbs can it handle ?

QUESTION: is 3/8" hydraulic line Ok? They have 4000psi line in long lengths at my local store.

Go with 1/4" hose and 4k psi or 5k psi. The 1/4" hose is a dream to route and will provide plenty of flow to make your grapple work. You'll probably even have to restrict that flow for best control. You will not lose grip strength with the 1/4" hose. It's the same no matter what size. The only difference is the speed of the grapple which does not need to be fast. Use adapters right at your remotes to get down to 1/4" and then the rest of your fittings can all be the cheaper 1/4" fittings, including quick connects at the loader disconnect. You can easily route and strap 1/4" hoses out of the way. I have them and love their ease and functionality.
