Wasn't that name used in the Ride of Paul Revere....."in every Middlesex village and town..." or did I hear that one wrong too? My wife is always on me for making up lyrics to songs unintentionally......mine are usually better./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I do believe that you are right, except they are not lyrics, rather words for a poem.

I knew that, but I figured it was pretty much the same disorder be it a poem or a song. I think I once thought that it said "middlesized" instead of "Middlesex"./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I used to think it an odd name when I first moved up here, now I don't even notice. I had a vague feeling about where Middlesex county was. According to <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.worcestermass.com/pronounce/middlesexcounty.shtml>this map</A>, I'm in it right now./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Concord is right in the middle, so old Paul Revere would have ridden through a lot of it.

Could be worse, how would you like an address in this town to the East of me? <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?zoom=8&mapdata=5%2b8Zmnm7bJxZhjH8E0ub9KCCYz5myO4GFIe9ZAmmxdFqFUoDfBq%2f2aLq962U60eEHRnhfqlFzDK1QK%2bpleqO9kccZXhMpH2Tl3dnnaj8ZJECtZaJqkLvdadOPdo6KQ8Aao8VGB7bzjWIFjaB%2f9fhxrO1aVDi%2bCHbiwS9MY6AfMJ8EQJDgUGAYzqyjjuzxnGnLJk3ckSFtn0yWBiaD1g1grKW00silQfIAnDwyh7m3xZ3Sb2mmfnF1OvJDK0VMOH4F7lWqMArKPApw5YLu2j8C9PV5k9FAe2RHeIww2YIe9I%3d>interesting burg</A>. Other towns in the area include Blue Ball, Bird-in-Hand, Paradise, etc.

I did mispronounce Waltham when I stopped to ask a cop directions. I asked how to get to WALTHum. He repeated "WALTHum, WALTHum, WALTHum--------do you mean walTHAM?" Hard to believe I was the first "furriner" he had run into..................chim

My wife and I visited Intercourse several times in the six months that we lived in the Philadelphia area several years ago. I loved the countryside and my wife loved the handmade quilts and other goodies offered by the Amish folks.

Chim,
You should see how they pronounce Haverhill - the town Hazmat made reference to. I thought it was pronounced the way it is spelled. Pretty clearcut. "Have -er- hill" But the locals say "Hey - ver- all" Except they squosh it all together and it is only 2 syllables.

Back in my Harley days I was riding with the Ann Arbor, MI hog chapter. During one of our rides we stopped for dinner in Hell, MI. Oh yes, and it does freeze over quite often each year./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
