thanks. i have heard several people give their opinions about them, but hadnt heard anything from everyday farmers(at least to my knowledge they weren't everyday farmers). if i decided to buy this model it would be used for discing 70% of its life and bush hogging cut corn feilds, weed feilds we havent planted in awhile(some rather thick stuff). so it will deffinatley be worked hard. thanks for the reply. any others that want to reply, please do.

Way back about 4 years ago, I believe there was a gentleman that had one of those model JDs. He did a heck of a lot of heavy brush cutting with his. Haven't seen him posting here in a long while but he was a regular back then. He liked his tractor a bunch. I actually considered one 520X, but the cost was very high compared to like machines. Anyone remember ??? BobG in VA

You may have the 5203 confused with another model. They're one of the best bargains out there on a tractor its size. Year and a half back, I was shopping new tractors. I was impressed at how reasonable the 5X03 series Deere's were priced compared to every other brand.

I purchased a 5203 last summer and love it so far. It is a basically simple, well built tractor that will hold up well if maintained and not abused. Most of the components are well proven in the 5000 and 5010 series tractors. I think they are about the best bargain out there and they have the Deere parts and service network behind them which should insure parts and service availability for many years to come along with resale value.

Around here, nothin' is hardly reasonable anymore....too many rich folks. In other words, "Sorry, if you don't buy it at that price the lawyer behind you will...." BobG in VA

Price I was first quoted was "list price" from Deere. It was literally thousands less than competing models from other brands, or more "deluxe" models from Deere.

Simple answer..... I'm cheap!

I was thinking about selling off my 3 older tractors and buying one NEW model when we moved to the new place. After I got a taste of todays prices, even the "cheap" ones, I decided my oldies weren't so bad after all was said and done. Final analysis was, I would PROBABLY have bought either the 5203 OR a 451 Massey. (MF dealer had a MFWD, w/cab 451 that he wanted to move. Made me a great price on it too)
