One thought you may want to consider as you design the garage: There may be times when you want to lift an implement, remove an engine, or partially lift that mower deck so that you can remove and sharpen the blades. A hoist comes in very handy for this purpose. One of the bays could be spanned by a heavy duty lifting beam, supported by strong support posts at each end. You could then place a chain hoist or an electric hoist in the center of the beam. This would allow you to lift implements and set them on dollies, remove an engine, or access those blades for sharpening.

I have a 3 car garage. The BX stays in one of the bays as well as all of my implements which are on dollies. When I need to change implements, the 2 cars come out which leaves plenty of room for rolling the dollies around. This is especially helpful for rolling the MMM under the tractor. It is so much easier to attach implements to the 3ph when they are on dollies that can roll on a smooth concrete floor. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend having a large enough floor to store implement dollies and roll them to the 3ph.

In my limited experience, go with as tall a ceiling height as possible. My new garage was limited to 10' finished ceiling by code, so I couldn't put in the 12' that I wanted. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I wanted 12' for a 10' door just for the reasons being discussed here. I only have a 8' door now.

Nope - it was me (still in a fog from almost cutting off the tip of my thumb on the bandsaw this weekend /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Didn't hit the bone and it only required 5 stitches but it still hurts like heck /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

My doors are actually 7' - I was thinking they were 8' so you should be good.

Thanks, Randall. And I think I'll put off that bandsaw purchase... Hope you get to feeling better soon.
