Questions about my new 4540

I have operated some HST Kubotas...smaller horsepower tractors. I just purchased a new Mahindra 4540 with FEL. I am beyond happy with my purchase. I am relatively new to tractors, so I am still learning. I have just a couple of quick questions:

1) the floor peddle that engages the differential lock, is it only engaged if your foot remains on the peddle? Or do you have step on it again to disengage it?

2) When trying to turn tightly with the Left and Right brakes, when you press the break for the desired side you wish to turn...for instance, if I am turning left and press the left brake, is the left wheel supposed to completely stop turning and pivot and the tractor makes the turn or will it still turn slowly? I have tried to use them going both left and right and it seems to aid some, but not a whole lot in making sharper turns. This is a feature I didn't utilize on the HST tractor, so I apologize for my ignorance. Also, does using the brakes a lot to help turn wear them down quickly?

I am not sure how the diff lock is set up on that particular tractor but you either have to hold the pedal or if the pedal stays down tapping the brakes usually release the diff lock.
When ever you use the brakes there will be some wear. (I guess that's why they call it a wear part!) When using the brake to aid in turning you should already have the steering turned all the way in the direction you wish to turn. In most cases the inside wheel will not stop completely, but if you stand on the pedal hard enough it should stop.

If your 4wd is engaged the brakes wont help you turn because the 4wd is pushing. If you put it in 2wd it will turn a bit sharper. The diff lock is suppose to work like your stating and usually is like this on any other tractor other than the few that may have electric or use the brake to engage the diff.
