Questions for 5035 Owners?

Flatpk:

Sounds like we are doing the same analysis. As I said, I drove a 4530 4wd and5530 2wd yesterday. Really liked the size of the 45 and power of the 55. The only thing I do not like about the 30 series is, dry brakes on the 45, only 8 speeds instead of 12, the 5530 is allmost too big. I will be taking care of 50 acres that rolling hills for the most part. Thanks

If your ground is hilly you need 4WD. Not only for traction but for braking. I also vote for HST. The small loss of power is a mute point. You will run out of traction before you run out of power.

The 6' brush hog will run easily for a 4530.
By the time you add a loader to that used 4530 you will have 16 or so thousand into it.

Been driving a couple tractors just for comparison. Drove a Yanmar lx490 and Massey Ferguson 1652. Excellent build quality and very smooth as expected with japan made products. I like both tractors but the Yanmar has about 125 Displacement and the MF has a whopping 180. Stilll neither feels as solid and heavy as the 5035 and do not spec out as well. They shift nicer than the 5035 and there are a couple of other things I like better. There is a difference in the fit and finish of the Japan tractors and the Mihindra but I keep comming back to the mihindra. Guess It is good to drive everything before you buy.

So I call a certain dealer that sells the Mihindra and another "red" tractor brand so that I can test drive the 5035 hst. He seems extremely knowlegable and proceeds to tell me about the trouble he has seen with the pto and hydraulics on the mihindra and that Mihindra had to replace the one 5035 for a customer after having problems. He kept steering me back to his other brand or to the TYM mihindra. I told him about being on this forum and other tractor forums and that I had not seen or read any signifigant problems with the 5035 is particular and Mihindra in general. I know that the mihindra is not as "refinied" as far as fit and finish but that what I had read and researched was that the tractor was "reliable". Long story short he has gotten me thinking and allmost talked me out of this brand. From my research, Mihindra is a good tractor. To you long term 5035 owners, any signifigant problems?????????

I think I read somewhere that on some of the very first 35' series they had a problem with the PTO actuating too fast, but they added an accumulator tank to the circuit. My 5035 'gently' turns the PTO on and off. I have not heard about any hydraulic problems. As far as fit and finish, AND ergonomics of control layout... I don't think there is much difference if any of them put up against the '35 series. You have to remember that salesmen are salesmen... not knocking them in general.... but they make money selling you stuff. They do not make money if you buy from someone else.. That is why, every red blooded American male [ or female, Brandi ] should be out there this time of the year kicking tires, test driving, comparing, drueling over all the tractor brands, taking one for the team .... !!!! :)

I have 2 Mahindras, a 7520 with 600+ hours and a 3215 with only about 150 hours. I have not had any "REAL" problems with either. the 7520 has has a sticky brake switch and had a loose nut on the steering actuator that leaked oil. Tightened the nut and no more leak. It seems like there was one other thing, but since I do not remember it, it must not have been much of anything.

Back in 03 & 04 when I was originally looking at purchasing my first new tractor, I went to the Hew Holland- Kubota dealer. From the get go the sales guy pushed me away from any NH and said to get a Kubota. I told him that I was not interested in a Kubota, but was interested in a NH. He persisted in pushing the Kubota. I left. Now why would someone push you towards a tractor that cost less than the tractor that you were interested in? :confused2: My only guess is that either the NHs were real junk which I no that they were not or that HE made more money off of the Kubota. What do you think? If the Mahindras are so bad, why does your dealer even sell them?

Trust us when we here at TBN tell you that the 5035 is a great tractor. Many of us have found that many dealers are poorly informed and are closer to the stereo typed used car salesman.

Just a few comments here after reading this thread. The 5035 is a beast, but part of the reason most of you like it so well is that Mahindra did a lot of research in the USA before building the series. They met us at our dealership and had us bring in customers. They showed us various renderings of hood and fender styles. They asked us about plastic vs metal fenders and hoods. They asked us what else we wanted. Some things we found were common answers across the USA; we want work lights and lights high enough to see over the loader, we want cup holders, we want steel fenders and hood, we want a tractor that sounds good, we want big wide tires, we want choices in the transmission department, we want a decent seat, etc. Then they took us and some customers out to dinner and went on to other dealerships to do the same thing.

I like the 5035HST. The cruise control feature is slick as you can rest your hand on it when mowing and then just push forward or pull back a little to adjust speed, all the while relaxing your feet. But around the shop, I'd say many of the guys prefer the PST. It's a toss up. Then the old school amongst us want none of the fancy stuff...just give me a clutch. It's all good, that's whay we wanted options.

So we, and many dealers, feel we have some ownership of the design. It was made for the USA market first and foremost.

And ssg510, you can't own a Mahindra if you keep spelling it Mihindra, or if you do, you will have to get new hood decals. :)

When people are talking about Mahindra in general, remember there are three distinctly different Mahindras in terms of design and quality.

First there are the Mitsubishi built Mahindra tractors (Japan)
Second there are the TYM built Mahindra tractors (Korea)
Third there are the Mahindra built Mahindra tractors (India)

Be careful to not mix positive or negative comments about one vs. the other. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but they are totally different tractors sold under one brand. Individuals (and dealers) personal experience lead them to form opinions, this dealer had a bad experience that had caused him to steer his customer away from the product that had given that dealer problems. Fair or not, that's the way opinions are formed.

Having multiple, totally different tractors under one brand is not unique to Mahindra. They are no different than looking at a NH tractor, is it a NH built, Shibaura built or LS built? Each are totally different and should be considered as such.

Just drove the 5035hst yesterday and while I like the ease of operation, I could feed to reduction of power when operating the FEL while moving. Not a big deal but certainly a difference. I think I like the gear tractor since I will not be doing just fel work. If it were just fel work than the hst would porbably be it. Nice tractors all in all and I have narrowed it down to the Mihindra and Kubota brands. I am also looking at the Kubota M7040 which I know is not a apples to apples comparison but I do like the bigger tractors. Still not ready to jump just yet and continue to use my old David Brown/case 885.
