Hi Guys,
I bought a few acres of "scrap ground" ditches, creek, swamp,
and alot of trees and underbrush. If I bought a bobcat, would it work well for scraping the ground to remove the brush and
small trees??? I have a guy with a dozer coming to make a
road into the place. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Rick /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have cleared a bunch of brush with my Bobcat 873. Make sure you get a toothbar or teeth put onto the bucket. How I do it is raise the bucket, drive close to the brush you want removed and then lower the bucket (in float) onto the area (teeth straight down). Then, when you back up, the teeth grab and will pull most if not all of the bush out of the ground.

I end up with a bunch of piles of brush, which I then push over to my main burn piles. I have a blast cleaning up sections with that Bobcat.

You can push over, or dig up small trees fairly easy as well.

Here's a couple before/after shots: 1 | 2

Agreed... just don't take on big trees with small skids or light-duty buckets. Brush clearing still requires a relatively high-performance skid -- or a dozer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

GATORBOY,

I have a hard time believing you cleared with a toothbar. Looks to me like you used either a bush hog or a mulcher head. A tire machine especially!!!! You would have had to used a rubber track machine. I must say, thats funny though.

What's not to believe? I cleared those Multi-Flora Rose bushes out with the Bobcat and used my rotary cutter to clean it up at the end. Tires/wheels do work on skidsteer loaders -- they also work on tractors and automobiles, etc. as well.

Those before and after's really whet my appetite to get my place cleaned up. If it wasn't for the walking wallet (my wife) vetoing a Bobcat T250, I'd have one!

I'd clear brush, add on to my pond, clear fence rows, and have a blast! oh well /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif . Thanks for the pics.

Rick,
Front-mounted hydraulic attachments work great for those kinds of jobs. I recently bought a Bobcat Toocat with a 60" Ammbusher rotary cutter and a 63" root rake brush grapple (among 7 attachments /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif). I'd use these instead of a standard bucket for tasks you describe. The same hydraulic attachments also work on Bobcat T-series tracked loaders, S-series skid steer loaders and the A300 AWS unit.

If you secure any one of these attachment carriers, you can rent a wide variety of attachments from rental stores and many Bobcat dealers at first. Hydraulic rotary cutters and brush grapples are pricey, but nothing beats being able to tackle heavy brush and trees with the most suitable front-mounted attachments! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
