Mmmmmm .... just curious .... what are you basing that on ?
Simple, otherwise content has to be developed twice, once for the web and once for display on a TV. It sounded like Mike/Rose wanted to utilize content that was already available, i.e., the web content.

I agree that using a laptop is a bad idea. Where I've seen this work, it's been with monitors attached to a wall or attached to a cabinet (keyword is attached) with a desktop locked away behind the wall or beneath the monitor. Which is what Mike asked about initially, i.e., a long cable running from a PC to a monitor in the store.

So, in summary :)

1. Use existing web content displayed on computer equipment.

2. Develop new, NTSC friendly content on a TV via a cheap DVD player.

Here's another reason not to go with a computer:

Imagine "Mom" rolling in with the rug rats in tow. While she's browsing your display (with her back turned) eight-yearold "Jr" decides to see if ya got the latest version of Doom loaded up on that new laptop. And after that he decides that the slot for the optical drive would be a neat place to stick his chewing gum ... now that he's done with it.

Seriously, laptops are a highly targeted item - they are easy to lift and once lifted very easily to conceal. A desktop would be pose a bit more of a problem.

In either case, both are far more of an investment (and potential loss) than a $50 DVD player from Wally World.

That's why you keep the computer in the office and connect to a nice monitor in the store with a long cable.
