Quick Hitch Cat 1 question

Go with the pats quick hitch you wont regret it and they sell them at rk also. they will fit anything and no bushings needed.

I bought a Haul Master quick hitch from Harbor Freight. It is probably the same Chinese hitch Rural king and others are selling. It is standard dimensions EXCEPT the top and bottom hook openings are slightly bigger openings. The locks on the bottom hooks also do not close near enough to the implement pins leaving a sizeable gap. A 3 pt rototiller will jump around in the hooks. The top hook also needs more clearance sticking out to fit some implements.

Since have switched to a Land Pride QH and it fits the implement pins much tighter and no jumping around. The implement bushings are Cat 3 size diameter on all Cat 1 quick hitchs if you want to check fit .

I had also bought the one from Harbor Freight.. The openings for pins are Cat 2 size... you need bushings to make Cat 1 pins fit... Returned it for that reason.

I have been using these which are similar to Pats... but do not extend the length of the bars like Pats does.. Been using them for years and like them but would like to go to
a regular quick hitch so I do not have to get off / on the tractor to put lock pins in and to attach the top link..

If you search e-Bay for "quick hitch" you will find them.

Hopefully someone bought the Rural King one and will provide measurements..

I think all standard Cat 1 quick hitches use Cat 3 size bushings. The standard is posted if you Google it. If using actual bushing and not the specialized adaptor you need a Cat 1 to 2 bushing slid into a Cat 2 to 3 bushing. The Haul Master hitch was a loose Cat 3 fit. The Land Pride QH15 fit the Cat 3 size snug.

I have seen the Rural King QH and it is identical in looks to the Chinese Haul Master and it will be Cat 3 pins. Hopefully the ones manufactured now fits tighter. Rural King also sells a Cat 2 quick hitch.

If you buy a Land Pride QH10 you don't need any pin adaptors for Cat 1 implement.

The Cat 1 quick hitches use Cat 3 size pins but keep Cat 1 dimensions.

Mat4644 thank you for info on pin sizes....the HF I had bought was probably as you said a Cat3 pin size...

Will just continue to use what I have... just getting lazy in my old age ... If still cannot get out much due to covid19, may weld up my own version come winter..

Thanks to everyone for the replies...
Appreciate all the info..

I'm still using the Haul Master hitch on my old Ford and will weld a small pad on the pin locks for a more snug fit. Price wise it's a fraction the cost of Land Pride. It is a very heavy built hitch.

This video from Good Works Tractor has some good basic comparisons and dimensions..

COMPARING 3 POINT QUICK HITCHES! 22 VERSION ** - YouTube

There are at least two non-standard Cat 1 quick hitches out there that don't require adaptors and use the original implement pins. Speeco E-Hitch and Land Pride QH10.

I wonder why the QH standard is Cat 3 pins? Maybe they wanted to sell adaptors along with quick hitches. Wish I knew about the others before I bought mine.

Early 3pt tractors were cat 1. As tractors and implements got larger, they needed heavier attachment points - thus cat 2. Equipment continued to increase in size and horsepower, cat 3 was developed. Implements became difficult to connect and a quick attachment method was needed. It worked well enough that the quick hitch idea "trickled down" to smaller equipment. Just my opinion, fist QH's I ever saw was on 100+ HP tractors.

The funny thing about the video that recommended SPEECO cat 1 QH, actually violates the ISO standard for QH as all QH's from cat 1 to cat 3 use cat 3 pins by the standard...

As a side note, i Use a puce of 1 inch water pipe for sleeve on my small pin implements (7/8 pin) to bring them up to cat 3 specs... Yes I know not standard or probably not best material, but if works for low use implements...
