i have a cat 2 quick hitch and an LX6 cutter. i have found that the top linkage on the cutter will not stay in position to allow for a "quick hitch". i have to "job" a stick or something to hold the cutter linkage in place to allow for the quick hitch to hook up. is any one else having this problem. it seems there should be someway to modify the cutter so the linkage will stay in position.

Do you mean the upper (semi floating) linkage pin floats upward as the cutter undulates with the ground? Sorry not to have an answer but that is an interesting question as I'm looking at quick hitches. I'm all ears. How DOES the top hook retain implements when there is upward pressure on a floating link?

If I understand the question correctly -- the short answer is -- shorten the adjustment on the top link.

Tightening the top link should draw the clasp/hook on the I-Match hitch upward and close any gap between it and the roller pin on the LX-6.

My experience with the I-match has been positive; I'm glad I have one and wouldn't go back to wrestling again with the 3pt arms unless forced into it.

But, there are inherent quirks to using any equipment and one issue with the quick hitch -- (and one additional reason why the folk's that have them want a hydraulic top-link..) is generally having to tweak the top-link hookup when attaching implements.

Often, you'll find that the top-link will need to be lowered (extended) and once the implement is mounted; you will need to shorten it to secure the attachment.

A minor consideration -- and much better than dragging out the crowbar and the scrap 2x4's.

the problem is when hooking up the top hook of the quick hitch to the cutter. the cutter top hook point "flops" out of the way to a point where the quick hitch hook cannot hook it. if i could tighten the bolts on the cutter this would hold the cutter hook point in place but the bolts on the cutter linkage have bushings in them to keep them from tightening and this keeps the cutter linkage. i may can "engineer" some bunge cords to hold the cutter in place. i know this is hard to visualize but trust me something aint right.

i can tell you this ,,, if i had tried to hook up a cutter with the quick hitch before i bought the quick hitch ,,, i would have never bought it! it works fine for disk and box blade (non PTO stuff).... but from my experience it takes longer to hook up a cutter with quick hitch than with out.

thanks,,, someone has to of had this same problem....

It don't sound quite right.. So, the top link attachment on the cutter will bend or flop/move?

And the flat steel mounting brackets to the top link on the cutter are tight?

How could the top link move if the mounting brackets are tight and secure on the deck of the cutter?

I found this post by N80 that has a good picture of how the LX6 top link is designed.
Note the pivot slot marked by "B".

Maybe this can help to see how the top link moves.

NoMO, Thanks. That definitely cleared things up! From the photo, it looks like the top-link attachment point could move, within the slot, something on the order of 1.5"-2", likely.

I still maintain that if you extended the top-link adjustment arm from the tractor 2"+ that the top hook on the I-Match would slip under and hook the top-link roller pin on the LX.

Of course, that means you have to get off the tractor and adjust the top-link and get back on the tractor and engage the 3pt. If it's adjusted right and the hitch engages the cutter; then you have to get back off the tractor and snug up the top link. So, the concept of having a "quick-hitch" is sorta lost in the final translation.

That said, IMO, having the I-Match is a much better system for using various attachments than the "wrestle with a crowbar" system.

Chip,

I thought that was par for the course. The floating toplink on my rotary cutter, pretty much flops out of the way every time I try to hook it up. Basically, I've either got to get it right the first time or get off the tractor and "jab" the floating link into the quick hitch hook. Otherwise I'll raise and lower the 3pt 20 times before I finally get it lined up.

Tightening the floating link is an option, but I'd imagine that it's just the nature of the connection.

MX,

"How DOES the top hook retain implements when there is upward pressure on a floating link?"

Having the bottom hooks locked should take care of any upward pressure.

By the way....itsmegg.... and chipsdad are both me i am double regestered and sometimes i forget who i am......but that's a whole nuther problem.

JCB... sounds like you have a similar problem but my cutter top link wont even stay in place long enough for me to try one time. yes the bolts are tight but it has spacers in there so the linkage will "float". i can see it needs to float some but i need somehow to tighten up the floating where it will stay in place to allow for hook up.
