MX,

"How DOES the top hook retain implements when there is upward pressure on a floating link?"

Having the bottom hooks locked should take care of any upward pressure.

Joe

Thanks Joe.

i created the attached picture to better illustrate my problem. in doing so i realized two things... ONE.. I have an MX-6 and not an LX-6, and TWO i think i found a fix to my problem as shown in the picture. I dont think there is a reason for the whole "A-frame" to float. I think if just the two arms going back are able to float I will be OK. If i tighten up the "A frame" i think it will stay in place to allow for hook up.

do you all agree.

THANKS A BUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Chipsdad/Itsmegg:
I have a MX5 and a JD quick hitch and I have the same problem. I think that your idea of putting a handle on the mower linkage should work. I reach back and yank on the linkage to move it forward. That works most of the time but it is hard to hold the linkage and backup at the same time.
Most people want the mower linkage to flex more not less. The more the linkage can flex the better the mower will follow the ground. (Ideally you want the tail wheel to stay on the ground the whole time you mow.) I have found that the quick hitch gets in the way and the linkage cannot flex as far as it should. So don't tighten up the linkage to eliminate flex. I think that it would be OK to tighten to the point that there is resistance and the linkage will stay where you put it but make sure that it can still flex.
Good Luck, Marshall

I used my I-Match with the neighbor's LX-4 last year (he actually kept my hitch for a couple months) and it wasn't nearly as big a problem as with the larger mower's -- apparently.

But one last question; if you back up to the cutter and latch the lower arms -- then, without raising the 3pt, extend the top-link and back up once again to the cutter (cutter is still laying on the ground) -- you can't push the top hook under the pin?

Sounds like you have to pull the top link brace towards the rear of the tractor before you can back underneath the link and finish hooking the quick hitch.

Still hard to visualize; if you leave the cutter on the ground -- how the brace/top link will flex rearward?

Maybe the braces should be longer, overall, to account for the rear tilting and possibly to increase some of the up and down movement of the deck while mowing...
