Quick price check on B7800

B7800 with loader is about 21k here in moose land, I paid just over 27k with a backhoe + TAXES, came out to well over 31k for me (grumble grumble). We are getting hosed up here and competition is weak. I was originally looking at a BX24 so like another poster said this was a step up for me. I got all of a whopping 4 hours on mine now and so far I really like it.

The 2630 is about the same price as the 7800 here but the BH is more expensive (BH75). I also didn't want to give up 4 diesel HP for a few frills. PTO use will be minimal for me, maybe a tiller later on and for the amount of 3PT hitch use I will use it wasn't worth it (maybe a back blade later on for driveway finishing). The 7800 is comfortable (for me) and I like the classic tractor look. Pushing in a clutch to fire a PTO takes all of 2 seconds.

The B2630 and 3030 have this slopping hood that reminds me of 80 newer cars and I think they will look outdated in a few years, just my opinion, I've heard lots of people that like it. If the 7800 had PC it would be a no brainer, that is the only thing I could see that would really enhance the 7800.

For comparison I looked at a deere 2520 (suppose to be a direct competitor for the 2630 and 7800 to some extent) and it was pushing 2k more for the tractor and BH, with an overall smaller frame size etc.

I to like the looks of the 7800, but if I had the $ I would get the 3030 because of the factory cab..

Comparing the B7800 to the B3030 I found the main differences to be the following:

  • 1/4" 3 Pt control valve of the B7800 Vs the Position Control Valve of the B3030
  • Electrical, gages, etc.
  • Styling, B3030 better visibility with FEL
  • Rear hydraulic ports
  • Better FEL bucket, B7800 is cheaper quality than the B3030, B3030 has slightly larger lift capacity
  • Seat, nice arm rests on the B3030
  • 1 Hp greater to the PTO on the B3030
  • Independent PTO on the B3030 Vs. continuous on the B7800

Does all of this matter?, I ultimately went with the B7800. For my needs it fit the bill nicely. Maybe if I amortized the additional costs of the B3030 over the life of the tractor it really would have been a small incremental costs. Both are great.

I have played with the B7800 a lot and while the Deere and B3030 are great tractors, I am thinking the B7800 is probably the way for me to go.
The more I play with it the better I like it. I do wish I had the telescopic hitch, but I will save the difference and buy another rotary mower (I wrecked the last one but that is for a different thread!)
Thanks for all the input!

I can not agree with you on a few points hear as I looked over both units very well before I bought the B7800. 1st off I have not 1 thing bad to say about the 3030 other than it is ugly in my opinion.

Now to the point of loader visibility they are the same. the blind spots are in different places but there is no difference, it is just a matter of what you get use too.

Now as far as 1 loader being better than the other they are exactly the same. 1 goes with one body and the other is for older style tractor.

Cheaper quality is not only not fair but not true. In fact there is a lot more plastic on the 3030 than the 7800. It may not have some of the extra features as the 3030 but that has little to do with quality. Take all the sheet metal off it and it is the same tractor

The difference in these 2 tractors in terms of who is buying them has more to do with what is planed for them and how people feel about the extra trinkets on them. If you are doing a lot of work with the 3 point hitch then the 3030 might be better choice for you. If your tractor is going to live with a hoe on it or a ballast block for loader work for its life then the 7800 might be your option.

I agree the B7800 looks better than the B3030 in my opinion.

When I evaluated the two, I thought that I was able to see a bit better with the B3030, no much, but a little bit.

Here I disagree, I am only talking about the FEL "bucket" not the mechanism. The bucket on the B3030 is a heavier gage sheet metal and is physically different if you look at the top of the bucket. The other difference I saw was that the B3030's bucket had a heavier duty bottom wear plate and had a continuous weld to this wear plate across the base. I had my dealer install the B3030 bucket when I bought my tractor. (I also went with an ATI tooth bar for the bucket, nice addition, after reading your recommendation).
Cheaper quality is not only not fair but not true.

Once again I was only referring to the bucket. I agree with you comments below.

Agreed, both are great tractors!

you got that right Taiser! I had the same type of pricing here in the Sault Ste. Marie area. I went across the river to Michigan and bought a new B7800 with 60" bucket, loaded R-4 tires and a block heater for $US16K = CDA$18K at the time. I paid the 14% PST/GST at CBSA when I traliered it over.
