A while back I bought a used M4900. I've noticed it has a small piece of metal welded to what appears to be a lock nut on the base of the top hitch just below the grease fitting. The metal piece is the diameter of a pencil and about 3-4" long. I can't find anything about it in the operator's manual. What purpose does it serve? Just curious. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that is to put tension( tighten against adjusting sleeve) on the lock nut when you adjust the 3rd link length. Without it you would need a wrench and this alleviates that problem!
