Hey all.. THe other day I was fumbling with the keyring on my ROPS pin, and ended up taking off my glove (COLD!!) and dropping the silly thing in the snow. well, to ease my frustration, I decided to make some quick release pins for winter use, when I won't be as likely to tip my tractor, and I will be putting the bar up and down a fair amount. The only bad thing i can see with my pins is the extra holes probably weaken the pins a lot, and it will probably be pretty easy to snag them on branches etc.

Basically what I did was take a drawbar pin, welded the handle onto it, drilled the end of the handle for the keeper, and tied the snap pin to the keeper. Then I dipped the handle in plastidip (you can get it at most hardware stores.. ) mainly for looks, but it's grippy, and resistant to cold.

Kris, don't worry about all those little holes. Just tell everyone they are there to create a subsonic whistling noise that deters critters while high-speed tractor'n. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Naw, I think he really really really misjudged the thickness of his ROPS bar...several times! Kris, repeat after me: Measure once, drill once! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

All seriousness aside, good job. I'm going to make me some of those "Kris pins".

Kris,

Don't listen to those 2 jokers! They're just joshing with you! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We all know that the real reason you've got all of those holes in the pins is called Planning Ahead. You're going to call them the Hansen Universal Locking System and sell them to all the tractor manufacturers and make a million dollars and then buy a whole bunch of new tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Do you need a Vice President?? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice, Kris. I never put down my ROPS cuz it's a pain with those keyrings. All my trees with low branches have tall grass growing under them....

Also, You said in your post,

Why are you less like to tip over in the winter? Jus' wonderin'....?

Oh, I knew that, but thanks! ;-)

If I ever need a VP, you will be top of my list!

I'll mostly be on the driveway with the snow blower, not off on some crazy side hill with a bucket load of whatever.. Of course, there is always the potential to turn over, but I don't anticipate much FEL work, unless the blower breaks.

I did want the ROPS to be functional, as I have some high mounted lights (for another post.. ) and I do live on a crazy hill, so there is always inherent tipover danger.

Thanks for the comments guys!
