I currently have 16.9x28 tires on my tractor. They are pretty trashed but tubed so they dont leak. I found a deal on some nice 14.9x28 tires. Would the 14.9 tires fit on my rims? Im not sure if 2 inches narrower would be a big deal or not.

I think you have a typo as both sizes are the same. Call a local tire shop that deals with tractor tires. They should have reference charts. Good luck.

Not ideal, but a 14.9x26 is designed for a 13 inch rim and a 16.9x26 is designed for a 15 inch rim.

If you currently run out of traction vs run out of power, don't get smaller tires.

they will work just fine

the tire sidewall won't (bulge as much)

probably need to run tubes in the new tires as well- due to the difficulty of getting the sidewall to seat- since the new 14.9s are narrower...Think most 28 inch rear wheeled tractors are tubed anyway...

Have never personally seen a set of tractor rear AG tires mounted on the next wider wheels.

Im currently running tubes and my tires are loaded. Im hoping that loading the narrower tires will help the sidewalls seat.

As long as there is a tube It will seat

what size rims? 12" ( width? )

As long as you are using tubes it will be okay. Back in the old days they actually built the same true and marked it for different rim sizes. For example a 11.5 x 24 tire on an 8" rim was a 13 x 24 tire when used on a 12" rim. You may not have as much traction with the new narrower tire but then again if your current tires are really worn you may be better. Long time ago we had a combine that needed more floatations so we installed wider tires on the narrow rims. Looked funny but worked fine. Tire company web sites say no to not matching diameters (that makes sense) but you can play with width within reason.
