Looking to replace my 6000 BTU window unit and I want the quietest one money can buy. Who makes such a one?

If you are looking for a window unit as you said instead of a split system, I have a couple words of advice.
Most of the modern compressors are a lot quieter than they used to be and it is the fan motor that makes most of the noise. Definitely do not get a unit that has a regular fan blade in front. Make sure it is a squirrel cage type blade as they are much quieter. Some of the rare larger units with large squirrel cages usually have a quieter, slower rpm motor than the compact units that have a small blade operating at high rpms.
Makes aren't nearly as important as they used to be because most of the units are made in Asia under contract and the same make may be made by 2 or 3 different manufacturers in any given year. Generally, larger, heavier models of the same btu are quieter.

Thanks for the reply! We'll see how the mini split looks but if its not practical, I'll be back searching for a window unit. I stumbled across a site that had listed a number of different manufacturers units along with the decibel ratings for each, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I have a daikin 3 zone mini split in our rental house. I did most of the install myself and had a hv/ac finish it off for me. The mini splits are incredibly quiet! They are as quiet as a small fan on low. It is larger then what you need, but most mini splits can be oversized and not have the short cycle problem that other a/c units have. Mini's have the ability to run on a very low speed instead of just on/off.

The box stores have 6000 btu units for a Benjamin, I'd just turn up the audio.
