For Christmas I received a set of the Bose noise-cancelling headphones. It's been mostly rain around here since but I did get one afternoon to try them.

Excellent! The Supertrap cut the noise by half, and these headphones took the noise level way down from there.

The noise cancelling effect doesn't eliminate all noise, just reduces it to a whisper. These will be great for the mowing days.

Also included from Bose was a CD player. Using it with the headphones is a treat. I didn't need to play music very loud to eliminate the rest of the tractor noise entirely.

I had emailed Bose to ask about the suitability of using these on a mower/tractor and they said fine except be careful because you could miss danger sounds, so I put them on my Santa wish list.

I don't see myself using them all the time but more for the time spent mowing and other "tedious" and lengthy jobs. I had to put the quotes on tedious since ANY and ALL seat time is anything BUT tedious. After a year I still enjoy doing ANYTHING on my PT.

Everyone have a great NEW YEARS!

I was also thinking about noise cancelling headphones...I would like to find a set that has an am/fm radio built in to listen to ballgames in the summer. I've heard that while not cheap the Bose headsets are good(more than I can say for their home audio products!).

Thanks, Farmall.

I hadn't even thought about radio yet. Surely it would have dawned on me sometime in the future but you accelerated the process by [ insert 'days' 'weeks' 'years' here ].

Being built in would be better and eliminate the wire.

I'll start looking for a "deal" on a small radio.

My PT425 might be the quietest of them all; I was a few miles into the woods on a fireroad getting some wood, and ran out of fuel. Forgot to bring the cans along!

BUT, it was VERY quiet. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lacked power, though.

Hi guys,

You know, I used to have a pair of those Bose headphones and they drove me nuts. I actually think that the addition of the noise with a 'out of phase' anti-noise signal eliminated the amplitude of the noise, but did not cancel out the fact that pressure still exists - I would get a tremendous headache after a couple of hours. I prefer my $50 Peltor double-cup muffs.

Sincerely,

Dang, Rob. Didn't want to read that! I went through about 5 gallons of gas Sunday repairing my driveway from rain damage but forgot I had those headphones until about the last hour, so didn't even use 'em.

As I mentioned, mowing should be the best opportunity to use them and now I'll know "why" if the head aches afterward. I plan on listening to CDs and that could be different than just the headphones themselves.
