Qusetion on Registration and tags

In Florida the DMV has to inspect the VIN to see it matches the paperwork and have signs up- We don't inspect when it's raining!
I've seen those signs in FL but dealer handled it without me or the car more than once.

Then again I don't remember them ever checking a vin when I did it.

I haven't lived there in 10 years, so they may be more strict now.

Ever dealer with a business where you just want to scream obscenities?

Dealership had two days to have paperwork ready (all confirmed via e-mail).

They canceled the first check (for taxes because it never got to the state) and didn't supply a DL with the power of attorney as I was informed for Pennsylvania due to a new state law.

Now I have to drive back tomorrow morning to get this taken care of.

Took my dad in with me today, and he told me he'd let me do all the talking beacause he was at the point of screaming.

The general manager told me they would mail the check. This after asking him direct questions via e-mail. Funny thing is, reviewing his responses via e-mail, he never gives me a direct answer.

EDIT- Just got off the phone with the manager. It's a good think I copied all of my fathers original paperwork. They took all the old paperwork because it was apparently outdated, but they forgot to notarize the new paperwork. I send him a copy of it via e-mail just to have something in writing and he informed me that it has to be notarized. This AFTER I was there in person and asked him about it because the paperwork wasn't notarized and he told me it didn't have to be (he at least did admit to it being his mistake).

You have to keep in mind, we had the drive the car in twice before my father left for Pa two months ago because they screwed some stuff up as well.

EDIT - So PO'ed that your spelling sucks LOL

Still working for the time I missed today.

I have only bought one car in Arkansas, it was a new car and paid cash. I got the title from the dealer, a bill of sale and that was it. I had to take that to the tax assessor to have them add it to my personal property register, take that paper to the DMV where they made out the title change, figured the sales tax and license fees. I had to pay all that to get the plates which came out to over $1900. The clerk said this was the first time she had seen anyone come in with the title in hand on a new car.
All other cars I have bought in Texas and La., the dealer handled all the paperwork, financed the sales tax, title and license fee, sent the title to the lien holder and I got the plates in the mail within 30 days or so later (dealer gave me a paper plate good for 30 days).

Every state is different is their rules from registration and plates.

In 2011 my daughter had to go half way up Vermont to find what she wanted (Subaru w/stick just after Tsunami). Did search and purchase prep email and phone. We then had to drive up so she could buy it and get paperwork. Then back to Massachusetts to pay sales tax and get registration/plates. Back to Vermont next weekend to pick up car. Three hours each way.

Dealer offered VT temp plates to drive it home. But insurance company would not cover it w/o Mass plates & registration. So could drive it from Vermont through New Hampshire to Mass border, not quite home. Also didn't want her to drive new car w/o insurance.

Buying in state is much easier, the dealer handles all the paperwork, contacting my insurance agent, registration and issuing plates.

Utlimately the first mistake the dealer made was mail the check and paperwork to the local photo license center. As mentioned, they didn't make the check out to the state DMV, but a county DMV (which doesn't exist).

Went in to the dealer this morning (3rd time this week dang it) and I suggested giving my father a dealer plate for the time being. They agreed as the manager read some of my reviews and asked me what I was looking for per compensation, I told him I only wanted this all taken care of as if my father were to be pulled over in either Virginia, Maryland or West Virginia, depending on the cop, IMO they could actually impound the car until they get everything straightened out as I'm not certain how insurance or registration would play out on a car that technically still has no "official tags" yet.

My dad and I are a lot alike. I'm in my 50's, never bought a brand new car, and only pay cash out the door. That said, I've convinced my dad that since mom isn't around, and he has his military pension as well as some other income coming in from the jobs he worked, to splurge and buy exactly what he wants brand new, and at 1% APR, at his age, take the monthly payment and leave the money in the bank for any trips he wants to take.

Years ago, when I first convinced him to buy a brand new car, I'll never forget parking in the dealers lot and asking him as we're getting out of the car on how much he wanted to spend... his response "13k and not a penny more!". I looked at him and told him to stop being cheap and spend money on himself and take a payment. Thank God he listened to me. He has fun driving it.
