R-1\'s and finish mower

Hi all- I have never owned a PTO finish mower and I was wondering if anybody uses one with loaded R-1's. I realize turfs would be best, just curious what the results would be using what I already have on my 28hp CUT. If I do this at all, it would be for long straight runs with very little turning and I suppose I could keep the sprinklers off the day before. Speaking of sprinklers, I wonder if the retractable rainbirds would be damaged by the R-1's. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: R-1\'s and finish mower

Syncro,

I have loaded R-1's.
The biggest problem I had was how dry it needs to be to mow with the tractor. In general, it's almost always too wet in my area (PA) to use the mower. If it rained within a week, the tractor would leave ruts.

I sold the RFM, went with a Garden tractor for awhile but now use a ZTR.

Re: R-1\'s and finish mower

Syncro I guess it really boils down to your own soil conditions. I used a 25 HP with unloaded AG's for better than 5 years without tearing up the lawn. Now I use a 40 HP equipped with unloaded R-4s for mowing and I still don't tear up the lawn.

The only time I rut the yard is if I have 950 pounds of cast weight strapped to the TC-40D and I'm moving a loaded pallet through the yard. Then you most definitely can tell where I have been and where I'm going....

Re: R-1\'s and finish mower

I spend most of my days at a country club /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif UNFORTUNATELY, I'm working. (Maint Supt,) I've seen many an irrigation head ruined with turf tires. I don't see where AG tread would be any WORSE than turfs. Bottom line....Don't run over 'em if you can avoid it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

AG tread will mark up your lawn if it's soft enough, and your tractor is HEAVY enough...Plain and simple. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Last year, I FINALLY removed the AG treads from my Deere 265 lawn tractor. At less than 1000 lbs, it was leaving scars on the yard. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
