So for best traction, viewed from the back, should the arrows be pointing up (^) or down?
seems like with the lugs pointing down they capture the dirt in the vee and pointing up they push it to either side of the vee (when driving forward)
whats the best way for best traction, what do you run?
thanks

added a picture cos I like drawing them and I can /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Viewed from the back arrows point up. That is so going forward the tread is self cleaning.

Yep, Jim, I think you and GeneD14 have got it. At least that's the "normal" or "customary" way to have the tires mounted.

Thanks, I've put them the right way round now, they look better this way. Seems to make sense about the self cleaning thing.
Bird, you must have read my profile!

Thanks.

The main thing is that the tracks you leave point toward where you came from. That way no one can tell where you're going.

On Gravelys with duals, they say to rotate one pair (inner or outer) one way and the other pair the other way. I did this on the left side and swear that the right side with both pointed the same always slips first. (I didn't get the valve stems on the proper side on the one on the right side. That's the reason I don't have them opposed.)

Now that you've got them on right you can really get yourself stuck when you start spinning, they dig really well. Don't ask how I know.

Steve, theyre really great cos you can drive further into the bog before you get stuck. They dig really nice parallel trenches too! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Actually, with the arrows pointed back, the earth that you are compacting in the tread is forced against the surrounding mother earth(big and strong) If you mount them backwards then you are just shearing off each treadful and dumping it out. You do get a lot more traction in dirt if they are mounted right, as long as you are going forward. Its when you are trying to back out of trouble that you have to use the FEL to push. Have fun always.....Pat
