R1 Wide tires for CUT's

I see a lot of utility size tractors available with R1W tires now, rather than just the narrower style R1's that have been around forever.

Are there any R1W choices for us guys with CUT's? I'd love to go with R1's for my tractor as I think I would gain a LOT more traction than my semi worn out R4's, but I would need to purchase all new rims for that. It would be nice if I could get an aftermarket, wider R1 that would fit the stock R4 rims. :confused3:

On a side note, I don't think I've ever typed so many "R's" before in so few sentences. :laughing:

Oh okay, I guess that makes sense. I was under the impression that it meant the tire was actually wider, but after thinking about it, that doesn't really make sense (my impression) because they offer both R1 and R1W on the same rims with new tractors (at least I think so.).

That is correct. I think the "W" is for Wet. In addition to a wheel change you have to keep the same front to rear ratio if you have 4wd. R1 will give more traction than R4.

I think the W tires were made for rice and other submerged crops.

I have a helpful story here, I hope. The oem turf tires on my Case IH were on twenty inch rims, not twenty four like the Ag versions.
I wanted to go ag R1 and did, but it took a lot of studying to figure out the right conversion size. I wound up with pretty wide tires on the tractor which
are simply marvelous for traction and stability. And I made sure the tire height was within a tenth of an inch, so that worked out fine too.
BKT tires, largest tire mfg in India, had what I wanted, where there were few other options.

Here is a link to the John Deere sales manual explaining tires. R-1W is a tread between standard R-1 and the deep lug R-2 used for things like rice farming:

Here is a link to the European Goodyear tire book. If you look in the green bar at the top of each page, notice that nearly every one of their regular ag tires has R-1W tread, like it is their standard. Goodyear sold its ag tire business in North American to Titan but retains their own ag tires in Europe.

Looking through the Goodyear tires you will see R-1W in widths from the super narrow to super wide. Look at page 10 and notice they show their tires work out in ranges from very narrow to very wide all having the same rolling circumference meaning you can swap (of course you need different rims) without affecting the front/rear ratios.

no, which was a big savings; the challenge was finding a twenty inch diameter tire that had a sidewall large enough to make up the
overall height requirement.

My 4240 has 17.5L24 on the rear I was looking at tires one night and these popped up in the search on Titans site. They say they are a R4 but they have a R1 tread:confused3: They are a little pricey too.
