R4 Industrial Tires-Plowing / Disking / Ploughing / Ground Engaging Tasks

I have r4's on my tractor and farm with it. At first I thought I was making a mistake because of the traction issue and self cleaning. Is your tractor 4-wheel drive? I seem to prefer the R4's now that i've used them. If i need that extra traction I just turn on 4x4 and go on. I think If my tractor was 2-wheel drive i'd go with the R1 ag tires. However, I feel like I get less field compaction with my R4's and loader work seems more stable. I think you could argue for either tire. I've owned both. Some things you have to consider are the lay of the land, type of soil your working and what kinda jobs your doing. My tractor is mostly used for hay and feeding round bales in the winter. On occassion I'll plow or disk, but haven't noticed any major problems with the R4's and when I do get in a muddy spot I use 4-wheel drive. They seem to be easier on my grass. If I were plowing lots I'd go with the R1's. Good Luck

I Like that answer.

I still use a sliderule for concrete calculation.

Me, 3.14...

I could never make my mind up about what tires to get.. so, I had 'em all! (Kidding -- but, at one time or the other; I had 'em.)

Like many others have stated -- it's all in what your uses are predominately gonna be and what it's like where ya live.

And turfs with chains are way better in snow than either R1's or R4's!

Turfs are better for ground engaging...and MINE are the best...OK not at all serious!

I have R4s on a 32hp Deere that will pull a 2-bottom 14", a 7' disc in some soils but not in others. Even with 4WD it often looses traction and momentum...drives my crazy. It works when we had more normal soil but does not have traction for current soil type. But I love it for all the other work (loader, backhoe, etc) it does better with the R4s. I will be getting a larger tracter soon and it will be for gound engaging work. I will get R1 for that. By the way I also pull a 66" rototiller with no problem with the R4s.

I have a little 15HP Yanmar (1500) that is amazing with the R1s..I am shocked what that will pull because of the better traction.

Hope your choice is right. But no matter what choice you make you will occasionally want another tire...so buy more tractors!!!
