Fronts 80% rears same (WAG). 1200 hrs all on grass and sand.

I picked this post to illustrate a point. If you only use 20% of wear in 1200 hours then the "projected life" to zero tread left would be 6000 hours. I expect that it will be far less than that. I usually get 1000-1200 hours from my R1's/ Still plenty of tread left, but by then the sidewalls are "rotting" and the tires just give out. I expect that a lot of life expectancy is based on what you are doing with your tires. Lignt duty like mowing and pulling light rear implements will wire tires a lot less that heavy loader and other implement use that results in a lot of side wall flex.

Andy, you raise a good point about wear and total hours, but I would sure say I agree with jrepp on his estimate. My R4s are only slightly worn at 1200 hours. I should get my ruler out and measure mine and brand new ones the next time I go to the dealer, but I'd say only 20% treadwear is what I'm seeing, maybe less. The condition of the casings is a different story, but mine are holding up very well in spite of being in the TX sun. Is it possible that winter temperatures, snow, and maybe chemical exposure are more damaging to the rubber causing cracks and deterioration? I don't know, but I think I'll check on this some more.

As I've seen in someone's quote at the bottom of entry, "your mileage may vary". I have a Ford 1300 bought new in 83 that still has lots of tread, but as some have said they begin to weather rot. Then I've seen new rental equipment with bumps for tread.

I had 4000 hours on my R1s on a B7100 in 20 years of use with allot of it on the road. It was stored in a barn away from UV light and they had no dry rot at all. They however did look like slicks with very little tread left.
