Re: Race.---A True Champ is lost
As I sit here and write this with tear filled eyes. What can be said. We have lost a true champion from the sport of racing in a fatal crash. But he died doing what he loved to do best and that was race. I started to write something last night and couldn't do it. I was just stunned---to put it mildly.
You boys just remember this---chew Tobacco chew Tobacco chew Tobacco spit if you ain't an Earnhardt fan you ain't sh**!!!
Guess you can tell who I was rooting for on Sundays. I only met the man a couple of times in person and talked to him briefly each time in the garage area, so it wasn't like we were close in that respect but it feels as though I've lost a brother.
I have been a NASCAR fan before being a NASCAR was cool. When a garage pass was pretty easy to get and they would almost give away tickets to Saturdays race just to get people in the stands. I also can remember listening to Sundays race on the AM radio because that was the only way to --see-- it unless you went to the track. Sure was happy once they started to broadcast it on FM let alone TV.
We all have seen him do things in racecars that were just not even thinkable. I've seen him get spun, do a complete 360 and only loose a couple of spots and keep on racing. Or when someone would bump him--the classic sign language out the window net. Better yet what he was famous for the little bumps. Do you remember him bumping the pace car? I remember one time he actually lifted the back tires off the ground of the pace car. Or his car flipping multiple times and he starts to walk away from it a heap of scrap metal, turns back and yells to a safety worker to see if the car would start, the car started---what did he do jumped back in the car and drove it to the pits to be fixed and finish the race.
I could go on all day with stories like this but 7 time champ says it all.
Yesterday for the first time I saw Earnhardt do something that I've never seen him do before. That was block the pack instead of make a run for the lead at the end of a Daytona race. You see yesterday was Mikies day in the sun although short lived, he won yesterdays race with big "E's" help in more ways than one. Just a shame big "E" couldn't be there to enjoy it. I had tears in my eyes just to see Mikie win one until I realized that Dale hadn't even tried to drive the car off the wall, I knew it was bad but never would have thought this bad.
You can't hold it against anyone it was just one of those racin deals. We all have to remember that he didn't need to race he LOVED to race and he died doing what he loved best.
My prayers go out to all the Earnhardt family, friends and fans.
DALE EARNHARDT GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN 1951-2001
ONE OF THE BEST RACECAR DRIVERS EVER!
THE MAN WHO COULD SEE THE AIR.
