Remember as well as a trailer/chains etal think about gates if doing residental that 42" sears will go in gates that a bx whatnot with 60" deck won't. Wish I had 4" wider gate 5'.

Do some online reading re: Yanmar if you want an affordable compact diesel tractor. Take a look at our website, and there are others as well. A small diesel compact and a 5' or 6' finish mower makes a nice mowing setup. Not as quick as a ZTR, but MUCH more adaptable to other chores such as clearing driveways, bush-hogging, tilling, etc.

ya, there's a difference between a tractor that mows and a fast zero turn mower. One thing to keep in mind when saying you have $10K to work with is that right now all the brands offer 0% financing for anywhere from 36 to 72 months, so i would suggest you go look at something like a NEW JD 2305 with a big belly mower@appx. $13K and.you could pretty much drag any size firewood wagon. I just went through the 'used' thing looking for a backhoe loader (TLB) and i bought a new one almost as cheap. there are a lot with mowers on them already though. model numbers change every few y ears now so that kinda confused me at first. the JD2210 preceded the 2305. almost all withing the past 5 years arestandard with 4x4 and hydrostatic, but make sure you ask if it's a few years old because it was optional. good luck. last word - DIESEL!!!!! , crossy

Are any of you other guys thinking what I am? Where has she been all my life? Cute, loves tractors, has a 4x4 Truck. Man, can it get any better???

Really though, you are getting great advise. If it were me and I was wanting to start a mowing business I would get a ZTR like I mentioned before. Use your dads tractor for odd chores and when money is available get a good used tractor.

I have a Yanmar and love it. I do have to be careful with the Ag tires on it since they tear up lawns. My little Yanmar can do a LOT and get through those 4 foot gates. I've plowed 6 inches of snow so far with it and that was the limit with just the rear blade. With a FEL, I could easily plow 2 feet of snow. I can haul logs out of the woods, grade the driveway, skid logs, clear land, brush hog, till the garden, etc. I have a small L118 John Deere for the yard but some day will upgrade to a ZTR. in your case, a Sub compact tractor or a Yanmar and ZTR would work fine.

Yep. The 169D. I love that tractor. Its always done the job at hand and more. I have to say that 4wd is a definate bonus since i tend to work in soft ground a lot. It is incredible how powerful these little Yanmars are!

I was faced with a similar scenario when I bought my BX2200. I wanted the Kubota ZR series for mowing speed and prowess, but I also maintain 2 gardens at 2 locations, and have snow drifts to deal with in the winter here in rural Ohio. So I went the with the tractor as a good compromise between mowing/gardening/snow removal.

Good Luck!!

We can get terrible snow storms. And when we do it can leave U wishing U had been to the store. hehe. I have a truck with 4x4. I dont want to put a blade on it. Its my baby hehe. It goes through snow good but U really need to clean your drive if U want to be able to go anywhere.

Oooohhh......A Dodge truck girl to boot!! :) Mine is a 2000 Quad Cab 4x4 1500 with the 5.9 magnum. Put a set of B.F. Goodrich All-Terrains on her and mud/snow won't be a problem!!

Rachel,
My wife and I have a JD 2320 with a 54" drive over deck and a JD 2420 with a 60" drive over deck. We mow our irrigated 3 acres in about an hour. Either one of these tractors does a great job of mowing, snow blowing and tilling. I do prefer the front end loader on the 2520 with weighted tires. It is much more stable than the 2320 with the heavy front loads. I also have a manure fork for the loader which can do an awful lot of work in a small space. I thoroughly believe is having the right tool for the job.Happy shopping!

I would like a Diesel and I dont want a Lawn tractor:thumbsup:, I want a bigger garden tractor or bigger Zero turn. I am sick of my dads Craftsman:mad: and want a Beastly Mower that will reduce my 2.2 acres to mere childs play, also I may use it to mow lawns since im doing that. I have 10000 to play with. Please let know what U recomend. I can get new or get a couple used ones to play with.

We sell new Dixon ZTR mowers and you can buy an real nice New mower for under $5000. Take what is left out of the 10K and buy a used Compact tractor with a couple used implements to help with the chores. I don't see any reason you cant have a nice new ZTR and used Tractor. Ken Sweet

If I had 10K I would look at a good ZTR. Do not buy one at a box store. Look for a Bad Boy, Scag, Ferris, ect. You can pick up a good used commercial grade one for the 6K range. I would use the rest to buy something like a Yanmar, Ford 661, ect for a tractor. You can then plow the snow with a $400 rear grader blade.

+1
This seems like a fairly sound proposal and gives you the best of both worlds. It also saves a lot of mounting and dismounting of equipment.

If you put this together, have dad pick up the cost of the trailer if he's willing.

I just trailered a J.D. 2320 for a friend this morning. That is a nice machine. He bought it from just a few miles from me this morning. Came with R4 tires, CX200 loader, 62C mid mower deck, and a 50 inch rear tiller. All for $13K. It is a 2006 and has 200 or so hours on it.

We unloaded it and he mowed a little spot of grass with it.....it seems to cut pretty nice too. I still like my Kubota's though!! :)
