Bruce,

I don't understand your question. The pressure doesn't start until it has warmed up but there must not be a thermostat in it because you can touch the block and put your finger in the radiator and it's just lukewarm.

I would think that if you have no pressure with the engine cold, that would rule out a head gasket problem.

I have heard of 2cyl Yanmars cracking between the cylinders. It would get larger as it warmed up. If you put the overflow hose in a cup and it bubbles or blows the water out that tells you it is getting pressure in the cooling system from compression rather than heat expansion. Also rust is a sign of air being introduced into a sealed system. Every cracked block or gasket I have dealt with had very rusty water in the system.

AHA!! I'll bet it's blowing air, (combustion gas), out the overflow tube at all times and blowing bubbles when you insert it into the bottle.

It doesn't blow any bubbles, it blows coolant. I admit that everything I know about diesels I learned on this forum but I have been an auto mechanic for 34 years. I know that when you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head one of three things happen. It either is burning coolant through the exhaust, has oil in the antifreeze or has antifreeze in the oil. None of these three conditions exist. I'm not going to worry about it any more. The tractor runs like a top and it's not overheating. Thanks for everybody's help. I guess evey once in a while the unexplainable happens and this is one of those times.
